Since last year I've become an inveterate fan of multiplayer games, obviously I can never leave aside the spectacular and magnificent single player experiences, but we are social creatures for a reason, and playing video games is, far from the stigma, a social activity, the Japanese have mastered it since Monster Hunter became a phenomenon over there and there was not a Japanese who did not play Monster Hunter on their PSP. On our side of the pond we had other things like World of Warcraft or something more local, like Halo: Combat Evolved multiplayer or Counter Strike LAN matches, a lot has happened since then and now almost every multiplayer game requires internet, but it's a price I'm willing to pay if I can keep playing with my friends and having incredible times as we always do. Anyway, today we come to talk about Red Dead Online, if you know Grand Theft Auto Online its the same, but with cowboys, and without content. Seriously speaking, RDO is the multiplayer mode of Red Dead Redemption II, game which story I HAVE NOT PLAYED because I have pending Red Dead Redemption (1), but that's a topic for another post.

The reason why I'm playing Red Dead Online is the same as always, I have friends who are very bad influences and force me to play things that can deform my sense of ethics and morals, which is why they pointed a gun at me and made me download the game (everything in this last paragraph is a lie, I love you guys so much). Okay, jokes aside, I've had my eye on Red Dead Online for a while now despite the fact that Rockstar totally put it aside to keep focusing on GTA Online content, and on a business level it makes sense, that game doesn't stop making money no matter how many years go by, it's crazy.

So, I downloaded Red Dead Redemption II, opened the online mode and created my character under the name Ari Endlesslaugh. The name makes sense, I'm someone with a very easy laugh, and if you have the same kind of humor as me I'm going to be laughing all the time, or it could be because I torture my enemies with a smile on my face while I keep laughing... you'll never know. In this sense it's the same as GTA Online, you create a character and you have a kind of "introduction", once you complete it you can start your story within the online mode, although for my part I didn't do too much to advance the story, I just wanted to get in with my friends and wander around the world, which is still beautiful. As with GTA VI, the online reuses the campaign map and this is perfectly permissible, the Red Dead Redemption II map is a beauty, crazy in detail and one that I definitely don't want to get lost alone overnight, but with friends everything is better so we became the 4 horsemen of the (absurd) apocalypse. Once we were all inside the game, we dedicated ourselves to do a couple of missions to earn money, the objective was simple, go to the point on the map, kill some guys, recover a notebook and go to the address that was pointed in that notebook, but the mechanics of the game make even the simplest mission become a delight, the weapons are handled in a very good way, I like that you must "cock" the gun after firing by doing another click, it's an additional feedback that feels very good, and holstering the gun by pressing twice the tab key makes our character give it a couple of turns before putting it away, it can be done faster, but this way it's cooler.

The few missions we were able to do were based on more or less the same, in another one we had to look for a gang member, catch him alive and take him to someone who had "unfinished business" with him, in this one we found it difficult the first time and had to restart it, then we kept being chased by the authorities, which by the way are very annoying, but VERY ANNOYING, until we finally managed to escape, deliver the guy and collect our juicy reward, a few dollars and some gold, which is the "valuable" currency of the game, with gold we can buy things that with normal money we can't, and for the same reason it harder to get it. With the money that we get we acquire everything, clothes, weapons, tools and more things that we will need for our life as an outlaw (or we can be an honest person, as well as in the base game, it depends on you). I would like to have done more, but I encountered a problem playing, and that is that neither my friends nor I could enter the stable to buy things for our horses, when doing so the game stayed in an infinite loading screen and had to close it, after trying several times without success we decided to leave it for another day, but except for that my first impressions are very good. The game is so nice that it gives pleasure just to see it, it's a game that you can run on a 10 series graphics like the 1050 Ti, a mid-range graphics of 7 years ago and it looks as good or even better than current games with much higher requirements product of its poor optimization, in that sense does not cease to amaze me, but I must comment something, and is that I consider that except for playing with friends, nothing of what the game offers is best exploited in the online, nothing. I have a friend who keeps telling me about Red Dead Redemption II, he tells me stories that have happened to him within the game and occasionally I see him wandering around the map without doing much, leading the horse holding the rope while walking, or making ammunition in a campfire, sometimes fortuitous events happen to him, he helps characters who later remember him and act accordingly, and everything as a whole seems wonderful to me. As I said I haven't played RDR2, not even the first one and I'm not in a position to say too much until I do, but I share the impression I have and I recommend it blindly because based on what I've seen I consider it something that everyone should play, or at least those who like games with such a detailed and realistic world. The time will come when I finally play both, I have debts pending, but when that time comes I will tell you if my experience matches my impressions, until then, I will enjoy the online, which is still fun, although I repeat, it is a shame that Rockstar has left it thrown away. Desde el año pasado me he convertido en una fanática empedernida de los juegos multijugador, obviamente nunca puedo dejar de lado la espectacularidad y magnificencia de las experiencias de un jugador, pero por algo somos criaturas sociales, y jugar videojuegos es, lejos del estigma, una actividad social, los japoneses lo tienen dominado desde que Monster Hunter se convirtió en un fenómeno por allá y no había un japonés que no jugara Monster Hunter en su PSP. De nuestro lado del charco tuvimos otras cosas como World of Warcraft o algo más local, como el multijugador de Halo: Combat Evolved o las partidas LAN del Counter Strike, ha llovido mucho desde entonces y ahora casi todo juego multijugador requiere internet, pero es un precio que estoy dispuesta a pagar si puedo seguir jugando con mis amigos y pasando ratos increíbles como hacemos siempre. En fin, que hoy venimos a hablar de Red Dead Online, si conoces Grand Theft Auto Online es lo mismo, pero con vaqueros, y sin contenido. Hablando en serio, RDO es el modo multijugador de Red Dead Redemption II, juego que NO HE JUGADO porque tengo pendiente el Red Dead Redemption (1), pero es un tema para otro post.

La razón por la cual estoy jugando al Red Dead Online es la de siempre, tengo amigos que son muy malas influencias y me obligan a jugar cosas que pueden deformar mi sentido de la ética y la moral, motivo por el cual me apuntaron con un revólver y me hicieron descargar el juego (todo lo que dice este último párrafo es mentira, los quiero mucho chicos). Ya, totalmente en serio, desde hace tiempo me llama la atención el Red Dead Online pese a que Rockstar lo dejó totalmente de lado para seguir enfocándose en el contenido del GTA Online, y a nivel empresarial tiene sentido, ese juego no deja de producir dinero sin importar cuantos años pasen, es una locura.

Así que, descargué el Red Dead Redemption II, abrí el modo online y cree mi personaje bajo el nombre Ari Endlesslaugh. El nombre tiene sentido, soy alguien con la risa muy floja, y si tienes el mismo tipo de humor que yo me voy a estar riendo a cada rato, o bien podría ser porque torturo a mis enemigos con una sonrisa en el rostro mientras no paro de reir… nunca lo sabrán. En este sentido es igual al GTA Online, creas un personaje y tienes una especie de “introducción”, una vez la completas puedes empezar tu historia dentro del modo online, aunque por mi parte no hice demasiado para avanzar en la historia, solo quería entrar con mis amigos y vagar por el mundo, que no deja de ser precioso. Como ocurre con GTA VI, el online reutiliza el mapa de la campaña y esto es perfectamente permisible, el mapa del Red Dead Redemption II es una belleza, una locura en cuanto a detalles y uno en el que definitivamente no me quiero perder sola durante la noche, pero con amigos todo es mejor así que nos convertimos en los 4 jinetes del (absurdo) apocalipsis. Una vez estuvimos todos dentro del juego, nos dedicamos a hacer un par de misiones para ganar dinero, el objetivo era simple, ir al punto en el mapa, matar a algunos tipos, recuperar una libreta e ir a la dirección que estaba apuntada en esa libreta, pero las mecánicas del juego hacen que hasta la misión más simple se convierta en toda una delicia, las armas se manejan de muy buena manera, me gusta que debes “amartillar” el arma después de disparar haciendo otro click, es un feedback adicional que se siente muy bien, y enfundar el arma presionando dos veces el tabulador hace que nuestro personaje le de un par de vueltas antes de guardarla, se puede hacer más rápido, pero así es más cool.

Las pocas misiones que pudimos hacer se basaron en más o menos lo mismo, en otra tuvimos que buscar a un miembro de una banda, atraparlo vivo y llevarlo con alguien que tenía “asuntos pendientes” con él, en esta se nos hizo difícil a la primera y tuvimos que reiniciarla, luego no dejaban de perseguirnos las autoridades, que por cierto son muy pesados, pero MUY PESADOS, hasta que finalmente logramos escapar, entregar al tipo y cobrar nuestra jugosa recompensa, algunos dólares y un poco de oro, que es la moneda “valiosa” del juego, con el oro podemos comprar cosas que con el dinero normal no, y por lo mismo cuesta más conseguirlo. Con el dinero que vayamos obteniendo adquirimos todo, ropa, armas, herramientas y más cosas que necesitaremos para nuestra vida de forajido (o podemos ser una persona honesta, así como en el juego base, depende de ti). Me gustaría haber hecho más, pero me encontré con un problema jugando, y es que ni mis amigos ni yo podíamos entrar al establo a comprar cosas para nuestros caballos, al hacerlo el juego se quedaba en una pantalla de carga infinita y había que cerrarlo, luego de probar varias veces sin éxito decidimos dejarlo para otro día, pero exceptuando eso mis primeras impresiones son muy buenas. El juego es tan lindo que da gusto solo de verlo, es un juego que puedes correr en una gráfica de la serie 10 como la 1050 ti, una gráfica de gama media de hace 7 años y se ve tan bien o incluso mejor que juegos actuales con requisitos mucho más elevados producto de su mala optimización, en ese sentido no deja de sorprenderme, pero debo comentar algo, y es que considero que salvo por jugar con amigos, nada de lo que el juego ofrece se aprovecha mejor en el online, nada. Tengo un amigo que no deja de hablarme del Red Dead Redemption II, me cuenta historias que le han pasado dentro del juego y ocasionalmente lo veo vagando por el mapa sin hacer demasiado, llevando al caballo sujetado de la cuerda mientras camina, o fabricando munición en una fogata, a veces le ocurren eventos fortuitos, ayuda a personajes que más adelante lo recuerdan y actúan en consecuencia, y todo en conjunto me parece maravilloso. Como dije no he jugado al RDR2, ni siquiera al primero y no me veo en posición de opinar demasiado hasta que lo haga, pero comparto la impresión que tengo y lo recomiendo a ciegas porque en base a lo que he visto considero que es algo que todos deben jugar, o al menos quienes gusten de juegos con un mundo tan detallado y realista. Llegará el momento en el que finalmente juegue a ambos, tengo deudas pendientes, pero cuando ese momento llegue les diré si mi experiencia coincide con mis impresiones, hasta entonces, disfrutaré del online, que igual está divertido, aunque repito, es una pena que Rockstar lo haya dejado tirado.
