**It's a tricky one to admit to, isn't it?** Personally yes I do enjoy watching porn, after all sex is a wonderful thing, an intensely enjoyable experience, and to see people engaged in that wonderful experience is nice to watch and triggers arousal. But how many of us can admit we enjoy porn? ## Porn and Hypocrisy There is a profound hypocrisy when it comes to porn. Many people enjoy watching it but can not admit to enjoying it, particularly when it comes to talking about these matters in public. I mean it's not exactly dinner table conversation of course, but for many it's never a conversation. And perhaps it should be. People often hide their porn viewing habits from their partners for example, and don't even talk about it with friends, it's as though they even deny it to themselves. Others though are more honest and talk about it more openly. So to work out the real facts and figures when it comes to peoples' porn habits is not an easy task. It should be noted that for some people porn is a problem. When it comes to porn the actors and actresses may be good looking and have great physiques but there is still nonetheless something a bit ugly and uncomfortable about porn. Herein raises the moral question. Sex is a private thing which is why there is a conflict with porn, shouldn't sex be kept away from cameras? Doesn't porn devalue and diminish the beauty of sex? Some would say so, I might even agree with them but it still doesn't take away the powerful allure and enjoyment of watching porn, at least not for me. While I enjoy pornography I will admit I am also conflicted by it. And I think that's the same for a lot of us, which is why it becomes difficult to admit to watching and talking about it. No matter how much of a liberal society we become I don't think it will ever be possible to separate sex from morality. Yes, in the West we are certainly more liberalised now than at any other time in our history. But morality and sex are not always inseparable. Over 30% of internet traffic is porn. Porn sites receive more traffic than Netflix, Amazon and Twitter combined (*worldmetrics.org*). We are only ever one click or tap away from hardcore porn, that's the world we now live in. In 2021 Ofcom, the British media regulator, issued the results of a survey stating that half of all UK adults watch porn. This is actually less than I thought! Nonetheless it reveals that in my country a huge amount of people enjoy watching pornography. For a country in which hardcore pornography was not made legal until the year 2000 we have come a long way! Second in place is Indonesia, closely followed by Brazil and then France. Last year Pornhub recorded an increase of 595% for the term 'homemade porno'. This particular niche is not only incredibly popular in terms of viewing it's also spurring a new type of porn performer. Let's be honest it's incredibly easy these days to buy some cameras and lighting at low cost and start making homemade porn with your girlfriend or wife, then upload it to porn sites and beam your bedroom activities out to the world. You can quickly and easily become your own porn performer. More and more couples are doing it. Websites like OnlyFans.com have further encouraged the participation in amateur homemade porn. It now has over 420 million active users on a monthly basis. Some people are anti-porn, some are pro-porn while others are somewhere in between. I would probably fit into the latter category. The whole issue of porn in our society will continue to provoke debate and contention, like so many other issues. While there are plenty of more liberal parents out there who are prepared to talk about porn with their kids for most of us I suspect we all have to work this out for ourselves, because most parents and teachers don't really want to explore the whole issue of porn, at least not in a brutally honest way. I have learned more form porn than any sex education class I ever attended throughout school. Porn can be enlightening, I won't lie it has taught me a few things in the bedroom for sure and I don't think I'm alone when I say that. I was tempted to attach a survey to this post, which has turned out to be longer than I anticipated and I am only half done, but alas I shall not include a survey.
