Hiking to Tsubosaka Temple, Nara, Japan 🇯🇵

Last weekend, I had such a great time hiking with my sister! Living in the city, we really don’t get many chances to enjoy nature, and I’ve realized that I could use more exercise. I tend to be a bit of a homebody these days, so making an effort to get outside is important for me. I'm also excited to start thinking about the next 10 years of my life! My sister and I have been chatting about picking up new hobbies and setting ourselves up for an enriching future together. Now that I’m back in Japan, I’m really looking forward to spending quality time with my family. I hope to go hiking with my sister and mom at least once a month so we can all enjoy some fun outdoor adventures! 先週の週末、天気もよく姉と一緒にハイキングに行ってきました。市内に住んでいるとなかなか自然にふれ合う機会が少なく、どうしても運動不足になりがちです。それに、この頃は特に意識して外にでないと引きこもりがちになってしまいます。それと、「１０年後の人生の為に今から準備する！」と銘打って、姉と一緒に１０年後を見据えて色々と趣味を持ったり、人生を豊かに過ごす準備を今からしようという話をしています。日本に帰ってきて、やっと家族との時間を過ごすことが出来るようになったので、姉や母となるべく時間を過ごそうと思っています。月に一回は一緒にハイキングに行けたらいいなと思っています。

I live in Osaka, and while it's a great city, there aren't many mountains around here. So, I thought it would be a fantastic idea to head over to Nara Prefecture, which is nearby. Nara is known for its beautiful hiking courses and stunning nature! I recently discovered an awesome app called Yamap that makes hiking even easier. You can download hiking trails ahead of time, and it uses GPS to help you stay on track. Since hiking can sometimes be tricky for beginners, it's important to be well-prepared. That's why I decided to download the Yamap app, thanks to my sister's recommendation. Can't wait for my next adventure! 私は大阪に住んでいるのですが、大阪府内にはあまり山がありません。そこで、隣の県の奈良県に行くことにしました。奈良県にはたくさんハイキングコースがあって、たくさんの自然があります。ヤマップというとっても便利なアプリがあります。このアプリは事前にハイキングコースをダウンロードすることができ、GPSをみながら自分が今どのルートで歩いているのかもわかります。ハイキングは初心者だと遭難する危険もあるスポーツで、甘く見ていると痛い目にあります。なんでも準備はちゃんとする必要があるものです。そこで、姉から事前に連絡があったヤマップをダウンロードしていくことにしました。

After about an hour’s train ride from Osaka, you’ll start to notice the lovely greenery outside your window. As you chug along, the vibrant rice paddies and fields gently come into view, making you feel like you’re stepping into Nara Prefecture. When we finally pulled into our destination station, we were greeted by the stunning scenery all around us. It felt amazing to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and soak in the refreshing calmness of nature! 大阪から電車に乗って１時間程度する緑が増えてきます。車窓から見る景色が都会から少しづつ田んぼや畑が見えてくると奈良県に入った感じがします。そして、目的地である駅に着くと周りは一遍してきれいな緑に包まれていました。都会の喧騒からやっと離れることが出来て、気分的にリフレッシュできました。

I decided to go on a little adventure and hike Mt. Takatori, so I hopped off at Tsubosaka-yama Station, the closest stop. This station had that charming rural vibe and was completely unmanned, which made it feel cozy and welcoming. The area in front was nice and quiet, a refreshing change from the hustle and bustle of Osaka. It felt peaceful, just as I had hoped, perfect for unwinding and escaping the city's chaos. While I was waiting for my sister to join me, I even enjoyed a short nap in the warm sun—it was just lovely! 高取山にハイキングに行くことを決め、最寄り駅の壺阪山駅に降り立ちました。典型的な田舎の駅で、無人の駅でした。駅前は本当に閑散としていて、大阪とは全く違った印象を受けました。いい意味でとっても静かで、都会の喧騒を忘れるために来た私としてはとてもいい雰囲気で、駅について姉を待っている間は日向ぼっこをしながら少しうとうとと昼寝をしていました。

I had such a great time hanging out with my sister! We decided to kick off our adventure by exploring Takatori Town. It's a charming little place that used to be a bustling castle town, centered around Takatori Castle, which is nestled in the mountains. As we wandered through the streets, we could really feel the history—there are still many old residences of village headmen that give a glimpse into how vibrant the town must have been back in the day. Did you know Takatori Castle was built way back in 1333? The castle town grew around it and served as a symbol of the area until 1873 when the castle closed down. In Japan, it’s amazing to see so many old private houses still in such great shape! I’ve been daydreaming about how wonderful it would be to breathe new life into these charming homes and help our towns thrive again. One of my dreams is to buy an old house one day and turn it into a cozy guesthouse. Once the price of HIVE goes up, I hope to team up with my future partner to start a project focused on restoring these lovely houses. While I was wandering around the beautiful castle town of Takatori, I couldn’t help but let my imagination wander as I looked for the entrance to the hiking trail. It’s all so exciting! 日本にはたくさんの古民家がまだとても良い状態で保存されています。この高取町にも古民家が残っていて、この様な古民家を再生して町の復興につなげることが出来たらいいなと思いました。私はいつか古民家を買い取って、小さなゲストハウスでも経営出来たらいいなと思っています。いつの日かHIVEの価格が爆上げしたときはそれを資金にして、古民家再生プロジェクトをパートナーと一緒に立ち上げれたらいいなと思っています。そんな、夢の様なことを考えながらこの高取町の城下町を散策し、ハイキングコースの入り口を探しました。

The start of our hiking adventure was tucked away in a cozy corner of the shrine, right by a beautiful torii gate. After we passed through the gate and followed the stone pagoda, we finally found the trailhead. As we began our hike, I couldn't help but imagine that this path once led to Takatori Castle, where townsfolk might have carried goods up to the castle tower.

As we trekked along, we entered a magical world filled with towering cedars. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, creating a warm and calming atmosphere. My sister and I chatted away, sharing stories and laughing about the little things happening in our lives, completely losing track of our fatigue as we climbed higher up the mountain.

Thinking back to our teenage years when our parents took us on wild adventures up 3,000-meter peaks, I realized that this hike felt like a breeze in comparison. I'm truly grateful to my parents for introducing us to such amazing experiences and helping us appreciate the wonders of the great outdoors! ハイキングコースの入り口はなんと鳥居がある神社の片隅でした。その鳥居をくぐり、石塔を目印に進んでいくとハイキングコースの入り口にたどり着きました。かつてはハイキングコースというよりは、高取城までの山道で、この道を使って物販などを城下町から城の天守閣まではこんだのかなぁなんて想像しながらハイキングを開始しました。ハイキングを開始するとそこは杉に囲まれたとっても神秘的な世界が広がっていました。杉林に注ぎ込む木漏れ日がとても癒しに溢れていて、気分的にとてもリラックスできました。姉と最近の些細の無い話をしながらハイキングするのもとても楽しく、お互いの近況報告しながら登っていくと疲れも忘れてどんどん登っていけました。私たちが１０代の時に両親に連れられ３０００ｍクラスの登山をよく行きました。それに比べるとこの程度の山は問題ないと心の中で思っていて、それはその様な大きな世界を見せてくれた両親にとっても感謝しています。

After climbing for about an hour and a half from the start of the hiking trail, we finally arrived at a charming square. It felt like we had just reached the entrance to the beautiful Tsubosaka-dera Temple! This temple is not only historic but also quite famous in Nara, and I couldn't wait to explore it further! ハイキングコースの入り口から１時間半程度登り始めると広場に出ました。壺阪寺の境内の入り口にたどり着いたようでした。この壺阪寺は由緒あるお寺で、奈良ではとても有名なお寺です。

As we explored the area, we came across a beautiful five-story pagoda and a stunning statue of Buddha! However, we were really excited to hike up to the ruins of Takatori Castle, so we kept on our adventure with that impressive Buddha statue guiding us along the way! お寺の奥には五重塔や大きな大仏像が見えました。でも、私たちの目的は高取城跡へのハイキングです！だから、この大きな大仏を横目にみて、ハイキングをつづけました。
