What’s your coping mechanism?

Asked my friend while we were discussing life and lifestyle. It wasn’t the first time I got that question that weekend. In fact, it was the second time I got asked that question, within the last 24 hours that day. Apparently people around me are stressed about their work,some struggle with jobs, some with their life, and others with relationships. Maybe the new year brings up once again their past problems that need to be resolved soon.

Perhaps it’s the tendency of the new year, new me era.

Last weekend I spent time with my parents. I stayed at my adoptive dad’s house. I always enjoy staying overnight at the house. The neighborhood is extremely lively and wild feathery friends perched fearlessly. The air feels really fresh as it rained heavily the night before. When I looked around, the mushroom multiplied. The soil also looked like it was ready for planting time. ### Slow Living, Transition --- While taking my dad out for a walk, I thought to myself that I used to think this kind of slow living was boring. Somehow, everyone around me is always walking fast, talking fast, doing things fast, there is no room for not multitasking. It ended up staying on the porch as I fed it some food. Then, more cats came around and it was like a mini-get together of cats in the neighborhood. They were really cuddly and weren't afraid of human presence at all. ### Busy, yet fulfilling & refreshing --- That Sunday was quite a packed one. I planned on meeting a friend for cafe hopping and before that, I went on a short trip with my parents visiting the hilly areas in town. I feel like when I am with my camera, I am lost in the world of pixels and trying to see the world in a more creative lens. ### Book Recommendation --- As a cherry on top, I also have the time to read a poetry book titled, “ Coffee & Me”. While it’s not so much about coffee, it was modern poetry narration talking about love, self, and regret. I read that at the coffee shop while my friend was reading Ernest Hemmingway’s work, The Old Man and the sea. ### ### Food adventure & nostalgia --- I believe that nostalgia is such a powerful emotion. There are many things that can evoke it, especially food for me. While I have little recollection of my memories in highschool, my friend took me to our place back in the day. It is so odd that everything feels new but also familiar. Having parts of your memory gone felt like that. My friend definitely remembered better of all the things we used to do and eat. This one is our favorite eatery. Spontaneous adventure and photography session is all I ask.

Now, back to the coping mechanism topic ..... For my friend it was running but for me, a calm and peaceful Sunday filled with spontaneous adventure and photography session are all I ask. This actually stems from my childhood where though my parents are entrepreneurs, they always did some type of outdoor activities. On Sunday they can be found hanging out, connecting with relatives or their friends, dine out at random places and visit other cities for fun. They showed me it’s possible to have separation time even as a non-wagie. Whatever it may be for you or me, when we can still afford to cope, always be grateful. There are people out there, who barely afford to cope and push back their needs on the back of their mind.
