Adjusting habits and creating space

Life can get pretty tricky sometimes. You could have a perfect plan on how your daily or weekly activities run and then suddenly you take up a new task that turns out to be just as important as your regular daily tasks.

These situations can be pretty disorienting. I know I felt disoriented for at least a week when I decided to add actively working out into my daily routine. It was an important task but it was also so physically draining that it forced me to adjust my daily schedule to prevent me from always having to sleep when I needed to work.

Adjusting daily routines can be annoying. Especially when it's a routine that you only recently just got accustomed to. While I've gotten the habit of shutting down when I have a new task to add to my already occupied routine, I always find a way to re-arrange my lifestyle and fit these new tasks in without hurting my already existing routine.

Creating space on my agenda

The first thing I do to fit activities into my agenda is wake up a little earlier. When I started going to the gym, I realised that waking up by 9 am and working out will 10 am wouldn't help me complete my daily activities properly, I decided to hit the gym by 6:30 am. This way I could work out until 8 am and still get work done in the morning.

If waking up early in the morning doesn't serve as a solution, the next thing I do is reduce the time I spend on certain activities in order to create time for new activities. When I started taking HTML classes I cut down the time I spent on UI/UX Designing by 30 minutes in order to have an extra hour to have my training.

Finally, if both of these tasks fail, the last thing I do is force myself to find a new productivity hour some other time during the day. Normally my productivity hour is within the first 5 hours after I wake up but I realised that with enough rest after those hours, I'm able to find time for productivity around midnight. This way the only thing that suffers is my sleep schedule.

Conclusion

These tricks of mine may not exactly work for everyone but they've worked adequately for me for years. The first important thing to learn is your High Productivity Hours. Once you hack that, you can definitely adjust your agenda in many ways to create as much space as you'd need.
