In this post, I shared several processes when upgrading the SSD (Solid State Drive) and RAM (Random Access Memory) on my laptop, the reason for upgrading my laptop hardware was that the processing on the laptop I was using was slow, and I was no longer able to run several graphical applications like Adobe Illustrator, Adobe After Effects, and Premiere pro. Because I work as a graphic designer, I generally use graphic applications that require high hardware specifications, requiring me to upgrade core hardware, namely SSD and RAM.

SSD (Solid State Drive) is necessary for data storage and data processing, SSD is faster in processing data compared to HDD, so it can save time to work. SSDs are also superior in terms of their durability compared to HDDs, SSDs can maintain low temperatures so that the laptop doesn't heat up quickly when processing a lot of data. Although the price is more expensive than HDD, in my opinion, the benefits provided by SSD are well worth the price paid. I also increase the RAM capacity on the laptop so that multitasking applications can run more smoothly without lagging. For graphic designers, this is necessary because it will save time and maximize work. Increasing RAM capacity can also speed up the process of running applications. For example, when editing videos, if the RAM capacity used is big, and supported by a high processor and storage, editing will be faster and smoother without fear of throttling.

I will give an overview of the process of upgrading the SSD and RAM on my laptop, I will only explain a few significant points, and the steps are generally not detailed. If you want details, you can search for complete tutorials on youtube, so you don't get it wrong when you practice it.

I use the IMPERION SSD Model with a SATA3 interface with a capacity of 256GB, the reason I chose the Imperion brand is that the price fits my budget, and the Read and Write speeds of the SSD are relatively fast, around 520MB/s for Read, and 420MB/s for Write.

The red arrow in the image above is the SSD installed on my laptop, then I installed the Windows operating system, I chose partition 4 to be used as the driver to install the operating system, partition 4 is the SSD that I just installed into the laptop.

Next step, I checked in the BIOS, and we can see in the image above that the SSD that I installed earlier successfully read on the system, HDD Model Name: IMPERION-256. Initially, I wanted to install an NVMe M.2 type SSD, but it was not compatible with my laptop in terms of the slot. For RAM, I use the Samsung DDR3 brand, 1600MHz with a capacity of 4GB.

The picture above shows when the RAM is installed on the laptop, then I check the BIOS system, and the Windows system informs me that the installed RAM has been read on the system. Previously, the RAM on my laptop had a capacity of 4 GB and after adding the new RAM it became 8 GB.
