Soutache for Everyone: How to Create Elegant Earrings Step by Step
When I first encountered the soutache technique, I was surprised by how simple yet stunning it can be. Today, I want to show you that making such earrings is no mystery – anyone can try their hand and create something unique. My goal was to design a project that is not only elegant but also easy to execute.
What You’ll Need
Prepare:
•Soutache cords: in gold, navy blue, and cornflower,
•Stones: faceted Rivoli crystals (12 mm) and almond-shaped crystals (18x12 mm),
•Beads: Toho and Firepolish,
•Brazilian agates: drop-shaped,
•Finishing materials: navy leather, threads, and jewelry glue.
Such tools are useful for many other jobs. It is also worth having something in your workshop.
The set contains 8 tools slim:
1 x round pliers
1 x flat pliers
1 x flat wide pliers
1 x flat bent pliers
The price of the tools is not the lowest, but you will see how it will help you at work.
The Step-by-Step Process
1.Start by selecting the cords and stitching them around the central Rivoli crystal. Arrange the cords so that their right side faces outward, leaving about 5 cm of extra length for swirls.
2.Create swirls around Toho beads, ensuring symmetry and neatness in every element.
3.Move on to the top part of the earring – encase the almond-shaped crystal with cords, form delicate loops, and then attach it to the lower part.
4.Glue the crystal along the edge using gel jewelry glue to keep it stable during further work.
- Finally, cut a piece of leather matching the shape of the earring, glue it to the back, and secure the edges with a toothpick to maintain a polished finish.
Extra Tips for Beginners
• Patience is key! Soutache requires precision, but each new project gets better with practice.
• Take care of your tools – sharp scissors and smooth needles make the process much easier.
• Experiment with colors! This design works beautifully in any color palette, so feel free to play around with materials.
The Final Result
After about three hours of work, you’ll have a unique pair of earrings – elegant, versatile, and handmade by you. Is there anything more satisfying than proudly wearing something you’ve created yourself?
