WEAPON OF WORDS

Text: “This day will the Lord deliver thee into my hand: and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee...” 1 Sam 17:46

In spiritual warfare words are major weapons of war. Just as we fight with guns and arrows in physical battles so also we use words in the realm of the Spirit.

The account of David and Goliath gives us a typical example of this. Goliath came with the best weapons available in those days. He was fully armed from head to toe. In spite of it he was defeated. King Saul also tried to convince David that what he needed were physical weapons that he himself could not use.
David understood spiritual warfare. He knew that this was a battle of words. The children of Israel were hiding away when they heard the fearful words spoken by Goliath.

What we say in the face of contrary situations is a major weapon. Our words are either working for us or working against us. We must train ourselves over and over again to make sure that we speak words that will work for us; Words that God can confirm to establish our victory and dominion on the earth. David literally confronted Goliath with words. He opened his mouth to establish his victory.
There were two major words that David declared:

  1. He declared with his mouth the covenant he had with God. He declared that he was circumcised; this was a declaration of God’s commitment on him. David knew who he was in God.

  2. He declared the established outcome and defeat of the enemy. He declared his authority on Goliath even though he had no physical weapons.

POWER POINT:
Our words are either working for us or working against us.
