Being a businessman or an entrepreneur you have to understand the nature of the market of your business or how the market works because that's where the trick is. What I mean by the trick is, when you understand the nature of the market of business you're dealing with then you will understand better on to play safe, when to invest more and when to take the risk and when to take a step backward.

When the Christmas period is approaching, I'm talking about like eight to seven weeks ago which the price of a day old broiler chicks skyrocket. As a matter of fact, by that time I bought a carton of a day old broiler chicks (50 in numbers) at the rate of #850 ($0.7) and at that time little did I know about the nature of broilers chicken market because I haven't raised during that period before.

When I make my research, then a friend who is more experience than me in this business make me to understand that the real reason the price skyrocket like that is due to the upcoming festive season, and also the demand for a day old broiler chicks from the hatchery companies is very high at that time and that's why they have to increase the price to make more profit because broiler chicken are tend to be expensive during festive season. So it's a win win situation no matter the amount you're getting a day old chicks for.

Even before Christmas arrived, i know have the best understanding on how the market works during this period. The birds I brought in seven weeks ago are now mature for the market. Initially, my goal is to keep them all for the Christmas period but my I couldn't keep them all due to their high feed consumption and the price of feed is also high nowadays. So I sold large percentage of the birds and left just only 10birds in the pen for Christmas period. I sold my birds at good rate which make me to realize that no matter the amount one is getting a day old broiler chicks, you will make your profit.

The biggest lesson I learnt so far is that the festive season is the real string that pull the price of birds and festive season is always a period which always reward the great hard-working poultry farmers. At this time, some poultry farmers especially the small scale have to take a step backward due to the price and cost of raising broilersbird and that's their own biggest mistake because they lack proper knowledge regarding the market nature of broilers chicken.

My own biggest mistake is not investing greatly but my lesson is to get myself fully prepared for period like this because this is my first time of experiencing such.

The most shocking part of the market nature of broilers chicken is that the price of a day old broiler chicks that skyrocket a month and some weeks ago is now down. I brought in a new day old broiler chicks some days ago and you won't believe the price I got them. I bought a carton of a day old broiler chicks at the rate of #12,500 ($10.8) which means #250 ($0.2) per one compared to the one I bought a month and some weeks ago at #42500 ($36.8), at the rate of #850 ($0.7) per one.

And the reason I said that no matter how much you bought a day old broiler chicks when the festive season is approaching is a win win situation is that, broiler chicken are sold based on their weight and if we have to compare the present price of birds per kilogram (kg) the price of last month then you will understand what I'm saying. Last month, I sold my birds at the rate of #1500 ($1.3) per kg compare to this present price which I sold my birds at the rate of #2,200 ($1.9) per kilogram (kg).

Conclusion

I later realized that no matter the amount you bought your birds when the festive season is approaching is a win win situation because you will make your profit, if not more especially if you're a big scale poultry farmer.

The second lesson I learned from the market nature of the broiler chicken especially when the festive season is approaching is that you have to invest in large numbers of birds because it's a season of investments and it's very sure that you will make your back multiple fold.

Don't take a step backwards as a small scale poultry farmer just because of the price and other expenses. Though I understand the pressure we small scale poultry farmer went through when it's comes to marketing nature of broiler chicken but taking a break when the festive season is approaching because of the price and other expenses won't do us anything good. Instead we should invest more because that's our best chance to recover all the money we have lost.

And most importantly, you should know that festive season is the string that dictate the nature of the broiler chicken market including the price and other expenses and also is a perfect period to all in and make profit.
