Self-confident, overconfident, or underconfident, which are you?
But before this, let's have a clear understanding of what they entail.
Self-confidence is the state of having positive thoughts about yourself. It means that you accept, trust and value yourself, irrespective of any imperfection or what others may think.
If you are self-confident,
✍You'll generally like yourself and you will be willing to take personal risks to achieve your goals.
✍You'll be willing to try again and again even if you fail.
✍You'll value yourself and care less about what others may think about you.
✍You'll admit to your mistakes and learn from them.
However,
If you are under-confident,
✍You are unlikely to feel that you can achieve any goals.
✍You'll always be filled with negative thoughts about yourself and doubts about your ability.
✍You'll not even try because you probably think that if you do, you will fail woefully no matter what.
✍Let's unpack an example where a colleague reaches out to another colleague and asks, "would you like to work on a project?" The unconfident person might think to themselves that if I say "yes", they are going to realize that I am not skilled enough and maybe ridicule me for that(her thought). So the easiest way to prevent anxiety is to decline the request because she believes that she is not good enough.
On the other hand, we have overconfident individuals.
✍If you fall under this category it means that you try so hard, take too many risks and stretch yourself beyond your ability that you crash badly.
✍You make fun of others.
✍You are not always satisfied with life and therefore remain unhappy.
In essence,
✍Self-confidence is all about balance.
✍It's not about stretching yourself so badly to prove a fact.
✍It's also not about playing it safe to avoid failing.
✍It is about trusting in your abilities and trying hard to achieve them with the proper mindset.
✍Now, which category did you fall in?
Are you self confident, over confident or under confident?
