Coffee Restrictions - On A Ration

One absolute favourite coffee cup

When we first bought this coffee machine (L'or Barista), it came with 200 free cups to try. This was great as we could try many different flavours and strengths without breaking the bank. It was soon clear that I personally only liked two, maybe three of them with a severe preference for the one cup shown above: Sontuoso. With a strength of 8, it seems like the perfect middle ground for me to be strong enough to my liking, but not too strong that I will regret drinking it afterwards.

Even when our test package of 20 boxes ran out (some never did as none of us liked them, haha) we kept trying cheaper brands as they were recommended to us. But none of them lasted. There's only one type that my boyfriend sometimes buys, half the price of the L'or cups. A good money saver but he too prefers our dear Sontuoso cup.

Promotions

Thankfully for us, these cups are heavily promoted and for a long time it seems that they were always in some type of promotion, were it in one supermarket today, or the other one tomorrow, I managed to buy them in bulk quite some times without having to pay full price much. Until recently that is. Just a minor promotion was the last one I was able to grab, I've been buying them for full price for 1-2 months now. It's possible I missed some promotions, though.

The numbers

As I saw money flying out too much to my liking, I decided to get the numbers straight and count how much we spent on coffee exactly last month. This is solely the cups for coffee at home because we never go out for coffee, unless we have a lunch somewhere or breakfast, but I will not count that 1 cup in this calculation as it's a rare occasion.

I was shocked to find out we spent close to 80 euros on coffee for the both of us last month. That's just crazy and I started to boil from annoyance that I didn't pay attention to this sooner, lol. Oh well, better late than never they say.

On ration

Thankfully for me, I was able to instantly save us 30 euros in the next month by using a 30% discount on the L'or website and buy from them directly. It just means you have to buy for at least 55 euros at once otherwise the coupon is not valid. I don't like buying that much coffee at once but I can see how I screwed us over big time by not following the promotions the past months so I ordered for 50 euros (after discount) and this should be good for 3 cups each every day for a month. It's not that I think 50 euros a month is a good price to pay for coffee, but I prefer cutting it down gradually to have a bigger chance at success!

I put us on ration for 3 cups each and put them in the smaller box so we know we have just 2/1 left that day. To make it easier for myself, I decided to start drinking golden milk again to replace at least one of my coffee moments for a warm milk with turmeric paste (ground turmeric, pepper, honey & cinnamon) to not only enjoy the health benefits and wonderful taste (especially if you add frothed milk!) but also make it easier on myself to see that I don't need to drink that much coffee and can manage with a little less too.

How much do you spend on coffee each month? Is it as bad as our spendings in the past months? Thankfully, I can at least cut the spendings in 2 because it's a two person budget.

My goal is to drink just 2 coffee a day, and save up the 1 I have left for special moments..
