BCAAs, or branched chain amino acids, are essential amino acids that cannot be produced by the body and must be obtained through diet. There are three BCAAs: isoleucine, valine, and leucine. Among them, leucine is considered the most important as it helps preserve lean mass, increase insulin levels, and activate mTOR, which promotes muscle growth. While supplementation with BCAAs is recommended at a dosage of 5-20 grams per day, it is important to note that BCAAs are already present in protein-rich foods such as chicken, beef, eggs, and peanuts. Unless you have a low protein intake or are on an extreme weight loss plan, there is no need to supplement with BCAAs as they are easily obtained through a balanced diet.
