Early on Friday morning in Karachi, Ali Nawaz Baloch, a former captain of the Pakistani football team who represented his nation in various international games, passed away.

Last week, Baloch suffered a stroke from which he never fully recovered. The striker's funeral ritual will take place today at Karachi's KMC Stadium.

The well-known Lyari-born football player received the President's Pride of Performance award in 1996.

Beginning in 1986, Nawaz held the position of vice-president of the Pakistan Football Federation for 16 years.

He also served on the AFC Expert Committee from 1990 to 1993.

Nawaz was given the AFC Distinguished Service Award in 2013 by AFC President Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa and FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter.
