Attitude on fleek : Reflection on awesomeness

My nephew now is a proud owner of a bullet. His work mostly involve travelling and meeting differrnt persons. Although he already has his four wheeler and a year old bike. Still he consider buying heavy weight bullet. Owning a bullet in the society is a status symbol. The bike comes in a high price bracket weighs above 200kgs, but always falls below par when it comes to mileage. Their mileage alwsys low in comparision to other bikes on the road. Still, the bullet is considered to be a high profile two wheeler. People in India owns this bike for two reason firstly for going on an adventure ride and secondly for maintaining a status symbol. Now you can make your own what makes my nephew to buy this.
 

I really like to congratulate him and his success in short span of time, but what unfolded once he brought the bike to my place really annoyed me. He entered our home with a thumping engine noise and keep accelerating to produce more sounds. People may consider it as action in excitement. But the truth is he was showing off. He wanted to let the village people know of his new prized possession. Not only this, he started driving the bikes on the village roads just to let people know by the high pitch engine noise. To those who are not aware, bullet bikes alwsys make a loud noise, while on roads. People can easily differentiate between a normal bikes and a bullet with the engine sounds. That action of his really made me not to be part of the celebration.
 
The bitter hard truth is that I am not yet adapted too ostentation. In simple words faking showing off just to seek attention. However, to my understanding, the society has more evolved into showing off now a days. Every little things that people own, or do they put up in the society in more flashy way. As like, in a way as they are too exquisite.
 

 

Showing off means someone who behaves in a way that is intended to attract attention or admiration. I think, I lack this quality, and have back fired me number a of times. Even at work, I was unable to demonstrate the unnecessary showing off. I have seen people presenting the things in a more dramatic way , like a bigger picture even to the simplest of things. That really pissed me with such behavior.

I personally moved by this statement by Bruce Lee. Being original is what more important. Showing up the money, prized possessions, or power, in an attempt to make other people notice and admire us may give a little happiness. But unable to get the respect that a person deserve. Like in the case of the new motorbike, in my understanding, flashing it unnecessarily was of no use. It remain with my nephew and people will get to know whenever he make a visit. But intentionally flashing on the roads is not meaningful. I tried to talk to him, but looking at his excitement I stopped myself.

He is young and passionate about his work. But sometime he needs to understand that unnecessary attention may create problem in society. Especially in our region , such ostentation may create a feeling of jealousy, or bad impression. People may take it personally and may go to any extent to harm him. (that is at an extreme situation). You never know what people mentality is.

State of Ostentation.

Simply not adapting, to a flashy lifestyle is not my taste. But many people like to live like that. Such lifestyle can be seen as a negative trait by some people, as it involves unnecessary display of wealth or knowledge above than what the person actually possess.

On the other hand, some people may view ostentation as a self expressive way of their lifestyle. The state of ostentation can get worst when people fake them more than their real worth. I simply do not understand, why people want to show off, is there any harm in being original?

Help me figure out the answer.
