Making RED

After my daughter has received her especially requested crochet professor vest, she then went ahead and requested another crochet item from me. This time, we're moving into the amigurumi world. She have had so much fum already with the crochet frontliner bear I made when the pandemic started, then Alice in Wonderland, Little Belle, and the little Ninja as well.
These toys are now showing signs of tear and breakage. Belle had a haircut because my daughter decided she didn't like the long hair for the Disney Princess. I am excited to see what she's going to do with Red this time.
Let's volt in!
Unlike the other ami dolls I made, I followed the pattern to the tee. Only because I know I'll have 3 tries on making these dolls. I decided to make Red first because I'm interested in learning how to make those curly locks.
Next I'll be making is Tina. My daughter couldn't finalize what gender she wants the third doll should be so I'm still waiting if it's gonna be Ben or Bella. Oh, and Tina amd Ben/Bella are twins. Yes, she has a back story for each of the dolls.
For now, Red is her companion. She brought the doll wherever we go. When we went to SM Aura to try the Prism park (which was closed when we got there 🙄) she put Red in her bag - along with her drawing pad, book, and journal. I thought I wouldn't have to deal with a heavy kiddie backpack when I decided to homeschool.

The most challenging part of this project is the curly hair. While my daughter is taking her quarterly exams, I was working on making Red too. I planned on giving it to her as a reward for completing all the exams. It was a good thing I finished it on time because she was feeling sad that her exams are over.

The instructions on the book said that I had to assemble all the parts first before attaching the hair. For Tina, I'll try assembling just the head first then attach the hair, then add the details on the clothes before attaching the head and legs to the body.
I thought I bought safety eyes before but because of my excessive hoarding during the pandemic, I think the safety eyes might have been hidden under the lots of yarns in my big crafts box. It's a good thing there's another option for the dolls' eyes. I learned another way and itnwas way easier - and way safer - than the safety eyes.
My daughter says crocheting is like magic. First it's just yarns, then poof! It becomes a doll!
I'm sure I'll learn something new when I'm making Tina. I will also try experimenting and anything I learn from her will be applied to Ben/Bella. I can't wait to finish this next doll. But before anything else, I'll have to bury myself first in the admin tasks of checking the exams, grading papers and performance tasks, and pnce again planninh our second quarter.
Gathering the materials for the pink-haired Tina.
My daughter is already on vacation mode while I'm on the "nobody talk to me until I have my coffee" mode. We have an upcoming camping trip too so that also wouldn't plan itself. Oh, thank the universe for coffee. Until then. Toodaloo!
