"My Favourite Way to Usher in the New Year"

The precious moment of my New year 2020 when I talked all my family back home and the youngest daughter of my boss was aware that New year is a holiday for us to celebrate. What did she does? She gave me flowers and wishing me a good healthy life.

She said, " Nanay, Happy New year 2020!" then she handed me her flowers.

I almost cry surprised on what she did.

Since we have no new year celebration in my workplace, I have to find a way how to celebrate it unnoticed by my boss. I always making excuses since then. Last few years past, we celebrated it here in my employer's residence but the permission was just a get-together party and not a Christmas or New Year party.

Saying goodbye to 2019 is something different from the years past because I am too busy due to the coming wedding of my employer's son. On the last day of 2019, it was the beginning of the visitors coming at home. It will take two weeks before the henna or signing the marriage contract. Well-wishers will be coming at home to extend their gifts and aid financially to my boss. It is their culture/tradition to give before the exact date of the wedding day.

In this case, I didn't invite my friends coming at home but I gave them Filipino food. That was just the best I can do. People were posting delicious foods and we were just salivating to the max.

I packed it with their names and message I felt so happy at least they have something for a new year's day Filipino foods.

On the other hand, we enjoyed ourselves through video calling with our families. Thank social media for letting us near though we lived far apart from each other. Looking backward my time, before the year 2000, there was no mobile phone and waited a handwritten mail arrived as long as 15days and more. That was the way how exciting receiving love notes from my homeland. The awful cries of a person working in a foreign land.
