Seeing this image on Facebook brings to mind an anecdote that happened to me a few years ago when I went to the beaches of Paraguaná in the Falcón state of my country.

A friend recommended that I go to Jadacaquiva, a town on the road to the beach called El Pico, and eat some arepas peladas, the name by which they are known.

The same day I arrived I went there with my family, wife and 2 children who were pre-adolescents, we sat on rustic chairs made of wooden logs and a table of the same material, no doubt an extraordinary job for whoever did it.

The place was a house with a tile roof and the cook's husband and son was waiting for us.

He greeted us kindly and told us that the only thing they sold to eat was arepas stuffed with butter and goat cheese and that they also had some preserved goat's milk.

I asked him for 3 arepas to start with, one for each of us and half for the children, he replied that he thought it was a lot of food as the arepas were big and I told him that we had a good appetite.

About fifteen minutes later he appeared with what we had ordered and we were surprised by the size of the arepas, which were about 40 centimetres in circumference.

We all ate one and a half of them and the rest we took with us, bought the canned goat's milk and left.

On the way back we had a good laugh with my friend, as the same thing had happened to him when he went there for the first time.
