According to this article, western investors are selling their gold. At the same time, taking advantage of the low prices, eastern buyers are getting it.

New York and London have reported a movement of more than 527 tons of gold since the end of April 2022, according to data from the London Bullion Market Association. In the same period, China's gold imports reached a the highest level in 4 years in August. India, Turkey, Thailand and Saudi Arabia are importing gold at a faster rate.
