 "The Launching of the "Sugbo Feeding Program"

The first launching of the Sugbo Feeding Program of the Fourth District was held at Tabogon Central School Gym in the municipality of Tabogon last November 15, 2023. It was attended by the supervisors of the 6th municipality/district of the 4th Congressional District of Cebu Province namely; San Remegio 1, San Remegio 2, Daanbantayan 1, Daanbantayan 2, Medellin, and Tabogon.

Our Regional Director, Dr. Salustiano Jimenez was also the attendee, and with the presence of our Schools Division Superintendent, Senen Prescillo P. Paulin, Ceso V. All the school heads of Tabogon District, elementary and secondary were also required to participate in the said activity. Of course, the most awaited guest for that day was the pretty and generous governor of the Cebu Province Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

The Preparation for the Activity
The full force of Tabogon Central School headed by their active and approachable principal, Mrs. Jurenda Cinco with the coordination of LGU headed by the municipal Mayor Francis Salimbangon, prepared the venue for that event.

Almost everything is ready for the activity. The decorations are in place, the food has been catered, and the sound system has been set up. Now, I turned my attention to the installed tents on the school grounds. As I walked around, I was amazed at the creativity and attention to detail that went into their design. But what caught my eye were the displayed dishes. The chefs had outdone themselves with an impressive spread of delicacies that looked and smelled delicious. I couldn't wait to try everything, and I knew that the guests were going to be in for a treat.

 
 
It was the tent owned by Barangay Salag. All the displayed chicken dishes were free to all who wanted to taste. They were promoting their products.
Many pupils and teachers were able to taste their chicken displayed including myself. So grateful to the owner for being so generous.At least while waiting for the guests our stomach was full.
 

 

 

 

 

As we made a left turn, we stumbled upon the tent of Barangay San Isidro. The highlight of this place was undoubtedly the display of barrels filled with ice cream, which caught the attention of most of the pupils. What's more, the ice cream was free and available to anyone who wanted to indulge in it. As a result, both the young and the old formed long queues to treat themselves to a scoop of the creamy delight.

The Arrival of the Guests

Our Regional Director, Dr. Salustiano Jimenez, arrived early and was followed by the Schools Division Superintendent, Senen Prescillo P. Paulin. The LGU, municipal councilors, mayor, and guests from the office of the governor were also present at the venue, except for the most awaited guest, Governor Gwen Garcia. Everyone was filled with excitement and anticipation to welcome the governor.
 

As I waited for our highly-anticipated guest to arrive, I was asked to capture some photographs of our regional director alongside the district supervisors from other districts, as well as the co-principals.
 

 

The Arrival of Governor Gwen Garcia

 The atmosphere was filled with anticipation as we eagerly awaited the arrival of none other than our esteemed Provincial Governor, Gwen Garcia. Everyone from the pupils to the LGU, teachers, supervisors, superintendent, regional director, PNP, and various other guests were present to welcome her. As soon as she arrived, the pupils waved their colorful flaglets high up in the air, a gesture that spoke volumes about their unwavering enthusiasm for the governor.
 

 

 

 

 

 

The Opening Program
 

 

 
The program began with the Philippine National Hymn, Sugbo Hymn, Tabogon Hymn, and a prayer by the Multi-Media. Our honorable Mayor Francis Salimbangon then delivered a welcoming message, acknowledging the presence of the honorable guests and, most importantly, Governor Gwen Garcia. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the governor for implementing a Feeding Program for all learners across the entire province of Cebu.
 

 
The Division Superintendent also spoke, thanking the governor for her unwavering support of the Department of Education. He stated that the governor has always been there to catch DepED whenever they fall.

The Regional Director extended his heartfelt appreciation to the governor for successfully implementing the feeding program, which has been a tremendous help to the community. It's worth noting that almost 1 million learners can now enjoy the benefits of this program.

The PTA Federation President-Cebu Province

Following the first speaker, several other individuals stepped up to speak, including representatives from the office of Congresswoman Janice Salimbangon and various political leaders. Additionally, the President of the PTA Federation for Cebu Province attended the event and expressed a willingness to collaborate with the program.
 

Governor Gwen Garcia

Everyone in attendance eagerly awaited the governor's turn to speak. She discussed the objectives of the program and how it helps learners fill their hungry stomachs. The program is available to all learners and not just those who are severely wasted, as was previously practiced by DepEd during the implementation of the Feeding program in various schools. The governor's speech was met with thundering applause from the audience.
 

 

Eating Porridge With Chicken
 

 

 
After some time, the students were cordially invited to savor their porridge with chicken that was lovingly prepared by their parents. The children couldn't contain their excitement as they relished their meal served in their bowls. It was heartwarming to witness the governor and other political leaders come together to serve the children and make the experience more memorable.

The Funniest Moment
During an event, **Governor Gwen Garcia **asked the students to stand and raise their right hands while repeating after her. The audience couldn't help but laugh when the pupils followed the governor's lead by repeating "state your name" after she said it. Then, the governor asked the pupils to mention their names. The funniest moment was when the governor made it a condition that the students should not engage in a romantic relationship unless they had finished their studies. This statement was met with loud laughter from the audience present at the gym.

Important Announcement from the Governor

 

The announcement stated that feeding for all schools would commence on that day November 15, 2023, and continue until the end of the school year. During her announcement, the governor expressed her gratitude to the owner of San Miguel Corporation for generously donating chickens for the first week of feeding. This initiative would provide much-needed support to schools and students who were struggling with food insecurity.

Reflection
 The events of that day will forever be etched in my memory. It was a truly incredible day made possible by the generosity of Cebu Province Governor Gwen Garcia. Her unwavering passion and dedication to our school children were palpable and evident in every action she took. She exuded a motherly instinct that made us all feel safe and cared for. I was in awe of her leadership skills and the way she effortlessly commanded respect from everyone present. Governor Garcia is truly a great leader and an inspiration to us all"
