The film John Wick is about a retired hitman who comes out of retirement to seek revenge against the men who killed his puppy, a final gift from his recently deceased wife. The film stars Keanu Reeves as John Wick, a legendary hitman who is known for his skills and ruthlessness.
It begins with John Wick grieving the loss of his wife, Helen. Helen had arranged for a puppy to be delivered to John after her death, in the hopes that he would help him to heal. However, when John's car is stolen and his puppy is killed by the son of a Russian mob boss, John is enraged. He sets out on a quest to avenge the death of his puppy, and in the process, he is forced to confront his past and his former life as a hitman.
John Wick is a stylish and action-packed film with stunning visuals and well-choreographed fight scenes. The film has been praised for its world-building, its complex characters, and its dark humor.
The film was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $86 million worldwide on a budget of $20–30 million. It spawned two sequels, John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019), and a fourth film, John Wick: Chapter 4, in 2023.
