Fun creepy encounter: On-the-job training with a twist

First off, I cannot disclose the name of the hotel just to protect its reputation because I will be mentioning the kinds of stuff that may scare future guests.
As a Tourism student, we will be having 2 on the job training in different fields that are good for 300 hours each. The first on-the-job training focuses on applying in a hotel, resort, or restaurant. I wanted to apply in the city so I could have a better experience, that’s what my initial plan was. I haven’t been vaccinated against COVID-19 at that time. But since I was so eager to experience a real job, I persuaded my parents that I wanna get vaccinated so I could join physical on-the-job training. Unlike other schools, we the interns will have to look for tourism-related establishments and apply on our own. Even if I wanted to experience the city it would be very costly. So, I choose to apply to the nearest establishment as soon as possible. My 2 friends and I applied for 2 hotels. We were so stressed at that time because we were running out of time. After all, the most important document was still not released yet. So, the first 2 hotels declined us, because other students from the other school submitted complete requirements before us. There are some accommodations left to be applied but it was too far. Gladly there’s this hotel that accepted us. The adventure starts here!

I was offered to stay in the hotel staff room, but because the important document was still in the process we weren’t able to start instantly. The moment we were about to start, the manager of the hotel told me I could no longer stay in the staff room because a regular employee would soon arrive. But still, I was excited to start my day as an intern. We are only 3 interns from the Cebu Normal University (CNU) and I happened to be the team leader. There are 4 girls from Cebu Technological University (CTU), and they focus mostly on doing housekeeping. There are two guys from Cebu Roosevelt Memorial Colleges (CRMC), they are assigned mainly to the front desk. But, if it’s their day off we will do their task. In addition, we will do multitasking meaning we have to be both in the hotel and in the restaurant whichever our assistance is needed. I had my first embarrassing moment! What a day to start my training, because I had my pants ripped off! I used my towel to cover it up and gosh! There are a lot of people in the restaurant so we have to help there. It was uncomfortable but still, I was able to do the tasks.

So, on the first time out it was 8:00 pm. The route of the bus going to my address had a last trip of 7:00 pm. So I had to ride a tricycle going to the nearest terminal and wait for the other bus. But I was too unlucky that night because there was no bus, as in! No bus and the taxis were full and it was almost 10 in the evening and I was alone and my family and friends were worried. Gladly, I was able to catch the last taxi and was able to go home at 11 in the evening.

On the following day, the manager was aware of my situation and so she told me I would stay in the staff room and if the regular employee arrived we would be sharing the room. On that day, we continued multitasking but, it wasn’t much of a job because we were 9 interns in total so the task was divided.

On the third day, I was able to bring my stuff and start staying in the staff room with my other teammate, Jes. On the first night, I was alone heading to the back of the hotel where the staff room was located. Jes was out at that moment but she will be back after her errands. I heard a silverware drop on the function hall but it was closed and I looked at the other interns they were just at the entrance of the hotel. So I just thought it was a cat who accidentally dropped a spoon from the table.

When Jes got back, I was inside the room, there was a double deck but Jes and I decided to just share a bed. Because the other bed is intended for the regular employee or maybe when she arrives she wants to switch bed with us. The first night that we sleep in the room we turn off the lights. She was overthinking and so she switched position, she was now on the side of the wall and I was on the right side where the ladder was beside my feet. In the morning, she said she saw a shadow sitting on the ladder of the bed. But in the end, we just think maybe it was just the shadow of our pants hanging on the ladder. We didn't mind it even though she said it was really like a shadow of a human, with a body and a head.

The following day, the manager specified a task for us especially me and my teammates to clean the bathrooms every morning. I usually wake up early like 4 in the morning so I can have a peaceful bath. The interns from Cebu Technological University (CTU) were the ones who taught us how to fold a towel into a water lily, swan, rose, etc. So we continued to familiarize the housekeeping routines.

There was this moment wherein we were asked to clean the storage room where different cutleries, and glassware are stored in there. So, we diligently clean it. My teammates took a break that time while I continued cleaning some of the plates.

I had this instinct of mine telling me to look on the right side. The moment I looked on the right side the curtain got down immediately like someone was peeping on the window of the function hall. But I cannot see an eye or a hand holding the curtain. I could only see the darkness before the curtain was down. So, I was wondering who it was, but I didn’t tell my teammates about it yet.

This is the inside of the function hall. The arrow is pointing where someone peeped while I was in the storage room.
There’s this one morning wherein I was alone in the room because Jes goes home in the morning and would be back before the time in. I was already in my uniform at that time. I set my mind to eat 30 minutes before the time in. I was busy reading a book when suddenly I heard the plastic bottle like someone made a slightly crushing sound. With my instinct, I looked at the time and it was the time I needed to eat already, great timing! I looked at the water bottle and it wasn’t deformed. So I just thought, if it was a spirit then he just reminds me of the time, or maybe it's just my imagination.

It’s almost 2 weeks of being an intern and the Cebu Technological University (CTU) interns are almost done. So, my teammates and I will become very busy once they leave. During this week we experienced welcoming a guest, answering queries, doing some inventories, housekeeping, mastering towel folding, and housekeeping, we also washed the dishes and served the guests at the restaurant.

I was strolling on my social media, when I suddenly felt goosebumps in the entire part of my body, as in! It stayed for a couple of minutes. I told my friend Jes what I felt and I told her that I think there's a spirit because I just suddenly feel goosebumps out of nowhere. After a minute my body calms down. But not that long, because I suddenly felt a force on my back like someone accidentally touched their legs on my back but I saw no one. There was no one on my back! I then had my shorter period of goosebumps the moment I felt the force. It was, really, really weird and creepy. I feel like it's a big guy and I was thinking that the spirit may be going inside and then the moment it touched my back was the time he was about to go out. Although I think they aren’t bad spirits still experiencing it firsthand is so creepy yet memorable. I can’t forget how it feels. So to avoid experiencing it again I grab a chair and sit properly.

That was the moment I told my teammates and the other interns about my experiences. They said there was no cat and a spoon in the function hall because we stayed there during our break time and we saw none. My mind was like, "Maybe the spirits were eating that time or maybe they don't want me to stay in? What if they just want to welcome me on my first night staying in?". The staff said the peeping on the window while we cleaned the storage was not a person because the only person who was inside the function hall was sleeping at that moment and it was his routine every break. The force that I felt on my back, they believed it was a spirit and the hotel and restaurant employees said, the spirit may have liked me. The interns was really scared that they don't want to enter any of the rooms alone anymore.

I thought the creepy things would stop the moment I shared it with others. Jes, who supposedly goes home every morning decided to stay in so I wouldn’t be alone. It was evening and some of the interns were at the entrance of the hotel talking when we noticed the window on the second floor that was facing the staff room where we were staying was open. But, the other interns are so sure they closed it. As we were afraid that it would suddenly rain and the roam would get wet, we decided to close the window. Along with the guard we go to the second floor together and let the guard enter the room alone bringing something as a defense. We scared each other and raced going down to the first floor after the guard closed the window.

Every time out, Jes and I would wash our uniforms, but that night Jes didn't do laundry. She was at the entrance of the function hall to connect to the wifi. So I was alone at the back of the hotel. It was a bit dim but it became completely dark because the lights went out. Instead of being nervous, I continued washing my black pants, good thing I washed the white ones first. I was overthinking because I felt like someone is watching me but I chose to ignore it. After a couple of minutes, the lights were back and I was almost done with the laundry.

There was this time when we needed to divide the task. I choose to do the housekeeping, Jes in the reception area, and Mario in the restaurant. The moment I entered the room, it felt too crowded. Like the feeling of being inside a closed crowded room wherein you feel suffocated, you can’t move properly and I felt a dark aura inside the room. I decided to go out and thank God I got out safe. I transferred to the other room to clean and the moment I was done I got back to THAT room. The feeling I felt inside THAT room earlier was gone. Like the party is over and the visitors have left.

When the Cebu Technological University (CTU) interns were done with their training, all the tasks were on us. The employee we waited arrived and we were the one who taught her the routines and shared the room together. We still do all the routines every day even if it was tiring I enjoyed it. Every morning we did the bathroom task, checked every corner of the rooms to ensure cleanliness, answered phone calls, and made a booking and inventories. We experienced being fully booked and accommodating the guests both in the hotel and restaurant. I was assigned to the front desk together with Jes we did inventory and at the same time, I experienced being a cashier both in the hotel and restaurant. We received tips from guests and food. We got close to Ma'am Teresita as well, they booked a room I recommended to them. She was looking for me the moment they arrived and I found her in her room and we hugged each other and took a picture.

There was this moment when my other teammate, Mario asked me to take a picture of him as documentation on the second floor. We headed to the second floor and after I took a picture of him I got out first of the room.

The moment I opened the room I heard children laughing while running but I saw nothing not even 1 kid. Their voices are heading to the door of the second floor going to the 3rd floor that is ongoing construction. I asked my teammate if he heard it and he said he didn’t. I tried to ask for some information to the staffs about its history but no one seemed to know the real history of it or what it was before it was bought and became a hotel. But the security guard said that he was used to hearing children laughing and running and sometimes crying every night or sometimes at dawn.

The last creepy experience I had was when it was the last week of being an intern. We only had 1 couple staying in the hotel so it wasn’t really busy. We only do housekeeping when they ask us to do it. Jes and I were inside the room next to the couples' room to do housekeeping. I saw the need to change the pillowcase because there was a small stain on it. So, I got out and headed to the storage room adjacent to the room we were in. The moment I got out I was really careful about closing the door because I was afraid I might disturb the couple staying in their room. But, when I closed the door it made a loud impact so I was so shocked and I just thought it was because of the strong wind that pushed the door so hard. I just had my two steps to go back to the room to clean. But, I heard the sound of the stilettos walking closer to me. When I looked behind my back, the sound of the stiletto stopped and I saw no one! I just shrugged it off and continued heading to the room to clean. In that moment what I suddenly imagined was a woman wearing a red stiletto.

I told Jes about it and asked if the manager who was on the first floor wore heeled footwear but she said no. The manager was only wearing flat footwear like her usual fit. So, I thought maybe it was just inside the couples' room and they were dressing up. But, we heard noises at the entrance and when we looked out the window it was the couple and they just arrived! It was only us and the manager inside the hotel and none of us was wearing heels at that time. To be honest, I was curious, what if I didn’t look back, what would happen to me?

We were able to finish our on-the-job training. I had a very wonderful experience during my on-the-job training. I learned and experienced a lot of jobs and I had fun that it doesn’t matter if some tasks are not too related to our course. It became more memorable because of some of the unexplained events I encountered. I told my parents about all my experiences when I was done. Because if I told them instantly about the creepy experiences, they would panic. Because they knew that every night it will be me and Jes only at the back side of the hotel. While the guard was only in the entrance. It's a bit distant that if ever something bad will happen the guard won't be able to respond to us quickly. I believe in ghosts or spirits and I trust my instinct that if those were really ghosts, they are not bad. Atleast, I only heard and feel them, because I don't know what will happen if ever I saw them. I was thinking maybe they were just lost and I felt bad I couldn’t do anything to help them. I tried to, but the staffs said it had been blessed by the priest. But, because I heard and feel something unusual, they concluded it didn't leave. When Jes and I packed and we're ready to leave it felt light, maybe they were happy that we were going to leave.
If you ever experience stuffs like this, don't be too harsh on them. We don't know what they've been through so choose to be kind. Pray for their soul and don't show them that you are afraid.
