This is my entry in the Cosmic Creations contest, with the theme home.

Five years ago I moved from the capital of my country to a town about 200 kilometers away. My home is now in a small town of about 500 inhabitants (maybe a few more) surrounded by fields, roads, lots of trees and birds, among other animals. This big change has had an impact on the way I look at my surroundings. It is common to go for walks or bike rides and it is inevitable to meet "beings" that silently inhabit this environment. Since I've been here, my ability to see these beings has increased a lot, and it goes beyond seeing sheep or dragons in the clouds (by the way, this town has the particularity of having an incredible view of the sky): I also see beings in branches, in trees, in a pile of leaves, in some intertwined shadows, in an old hammock in the square! I believe that there are beings that were trapped for some reason inside objects and that from there (as if it were their new home) they try a new way of life or of being in this world. I am working on this concept in a series of sketches called pareidolia.

Hace cinco años me mudé desde la capital de mi país a un pueblo que se encuentra a unos 200 kilómetros. Mi hogar ahora está en un pequeño pueblo de alrededor de 500 habitantes (tal vez algunos más) rodeado de campos, caminos, muchos árboles y pájaros, entre otros animales. Este cambio tan grande repercutió en mi forma de mirar el entorno. Es común salir a hacer caminatas o a andar en bicicleta y es inevitable encontrarse con “seres” que habitan de manera silenciosa este ambiente. Desde que estoy acá, mi capacidad de ver estos seres aumentó muchísimo, y va más allá de ver ovejas o dragones en las nubes (por cierto, este pueblo tiene la particularidad de tener una visión del cielo increíble): también veo seres en ramas, en árboles, en un montoncito de hojas, en unas sombras entrelazadas, ¡en una vieja hamaca de la plaza! Creo que hay seres que quedaron atrapados por alguna razón dentro de objetos y que a partir de ahí (como si fuese su nuevo hogar) intentan una nueva forma de vida o de estar en este mundo. Este concepto lo estoy trabajando en una serie de bocetos que se llaman pareidolia.

For all this, I chose the elements that make up my image: a tree branch (with a face) that observes a bird perched on a plant, typical of this region, trees and a sign that shows the change of direction. I transformed the image of the big tree branch to let out the being that was hidden inside. I think that, somehow, they like to be found, although they soon hide again.

Por todo esto, elegí los elementos que forman mi imagen: una rama de un árbol (con cara) que observa a un pájaro posado sobre una planta, típicos de esta región, árboles y un cartel que da cuenta del cambio de rumbo. La imagen de la gran rama del árbol la transformé para dejar salir al ser que se encontraba escondido ahí dentro. Creo que, de algún modo, les gusta ser encontrados, aunque enseguida se vuelven a esconder.

To make it I used Photoshop. I worked with few images. They seemed to me the necessary to express this concept. After choosing them, I arranged them on the canvas as a sketch to get the structure I wanted. Then I started to crop and merge them, and worked with some filters until I got the mood I imagined.

Para realizarlo usé Photoshop. Trabajé con pocas imágenes. Me parecieron las necesarias para expresar este concepto. Después de elegirlas, las dispuse sobre el lienzo en forma de boceto para conseguir la estructura que quería. Luego empecé a recortarlas y fusionarlas, y trabajé con algunos filtros hasta lograr el clima que me imaginaba.
