Leasing Vs. Buying a Car or No Car?

I used to purchase cars, but not anymore in my family. I wish I had convenient public transportation in my area, but I don't have any access to my house. Only taxis are available, but they are not convenient. People still depend on cars a lot in my area.

My mother stopped owning a car a few years ago. When I visited her in Japan, I didn't feel any inconvenience, even though it was the first time I experienced life without a car in my hometown. There are buses, taxis, trains, subways, streetcars, and bikes, so I didn't need to think about cars at all. Additionally, when I lived in the Kanto area, most people didn't use cars, so I was also super positive about life without a car. I had a bike and a motorcycle at that time. In the future, hopefully, I won't need to own a car and will use only public transportation again.

Unbelievably, there used to be train rails in town, but the government took them away, so now we only have a bus service. However, the bus service runs only once an hour. Perhaps, people are no longer expecting convenient public services. People have to spend so much money on owning and maintaining cars. Some families have 2-3 cars for each family member. My youth student also doesn't want to own a car forever. He said he wished there were stable public transportation services. I assume that young people are also starting to feel this way more and more.

My husband and I used to own our car in Japan. However, we had to fix our car constantly. Since we learned from that experience, we decided to lease a car in Canada. Leasing cars has been super relaxing for us. There are so many benefits for us. Not everyone feels comfortable leasing cars, but we find it beneficial. Here is my comparison:

・Lower costs
・Happiness from having a new car constantly
・Less heavy responsibility
・Easy to trade
・Easy to make a contract
・Reasonable monthly or weekly payment (depending on the car)
・No need to sell
・No loan

Detriments (for me)
・Unable to customize
・No ownership
・No possession
・Must return the car
・Should have maintenance (but good for the assessment)
・Some dealers are unfamiliar with the leasing process

Again, this is all my opinion. Some people couldn't stand having leased cars in their lives. For us, we feel very comfortable leasing cars so far. Since both of us work from home, the low mileage results in a higher trade-in value. However, when it's time to have eco cars, I am not sure what direction we will take.

Changing the topic slightly, we recently made a new contract for a new car. We used to lease a Hyundai car which was very comfortable and nice. Unfortunately, the price of the Hyundai 4WD will be expensive soon, so we needed to switch to a more reasonable car this time. We selected a Japanese brand this time.

This was our third time leasing cars and each time the dealer was confused with the leasing process and made some mistakes. Perhaps, they often sell cars but do not often lease cars, which is why there is some confusion. This time, the experience was unfortunately worse for us. Human relationships are always not easy... Anyway, despite the bad customer service, I feel satisfied having a new Japanese car.

車はリース派VS購入派、それとも車なし派？

昔は車を購入していましたが、もうやめました。今住んでいる地域の公共交通機関が整っていればいいのですが、残念ながら家までのアクセスがありません。唯一タクシーという方法がありますが、あまり便利ではありません。ほとんどの人たちが車に頼る生活をしています。

実家の母は、数年前に車の所有をやめました。日本を訪れた時、車のない実家は初めての経験でしたが、まったく不便さを感じませんでした。バス、タクシー、電車、地下鉄、市電や自転車がありますのでなんの問題もなく、車を恋しく思うことは一度もありませんでした。さらに、関東に住んでいたときは、車を所有していない家庭はけっこう多く、そんな暮らしは快適でした。その時は自転車とバイクを所有していました。将来は車いらずの公共交通機関を利用する暮らしがしたいです。

今住んでいる町では、信じられないことに元々あった線路をすべて撤去してしまったのでバスしかありません。ところが、バスは１時間に１本ほどしかありません。おそらく、人々は便利な交通機関にもはや期待などしていない様子です。車を所有するのに大変な費用がかかりますし、１世帯で２−３台車を所有している家庭もあります。私の青年の生徒さんも交通機関があればいいと嘆いていました。若い世代の人たちも、少しずつだんだんと車のない生活でもよいのではないかと考える人も増えてきているのかもしれません。

私と主人が日本で車を所持していた時は、常に車の修理をしなければなりませんでした。その経験があったからか、カナダではリースにしようと思えたのかもしれません。リースをすることでかなり気持ちが楽になりました。リースには好条件がたくさんあります。もちろん、すべての人がリースをすることに心地よいとは思いませんが、私たちにとってはあっているようです。私なりに比較をしてみると：

利点（私にとって）
・不安が減少
・手入れが少ない
・もろもろのコストが低い
・定期的に新車になる
・重大な責任が減少
・乗り換えが簡単
・契約が簡単
・月々または週の支払いが安価（リースする車によります）
・自分で販売しなくてよい
・ローンがない

デメリット（私にとって）
・カスタム不可
・車の持ち主ではない
・車の所有権はない
・いつか返却しなければならない
・メンテナンスは必須（しかし査定には効果的）
・ディーラーによってはリースの手順に不慣れなところがある

お伝えしたとおり、これはあくまでも私の意見です。中には自分の車にならないなんてとんでもないという方もいると思います。ただ、私たちにとっては今のところ快適なのです。ふたりとも自宅勤務なので、走行距離が少ないとトレードの際の査定額もよいです。しかし、この先近い未来にエコ車を導入する時がきたらどうなるかは未定です。

話は少し変わりますが、最近また新しい車のリース契約をしました。前回はヒュンダイの車をリースしていました。とても乗りごごちが良い車でした。残念ながら、四駆のヒュンダイの価格が上がるためにもう少しお手頃の車に乗り換える必要がありました。今回は日本車にしました。

今回で3度目のリースになりますが、どの回もディラーの勘違いによる手違いがありました。おそらく、普段車を販売されている方はリースの手順が少し戸惑う方がいるように思います。残念ながら、今回は中でもいちばん酷い経験でした。人間関係はやはり難しい…。最悪のカスタマーサービスではありましたが、新しい日本車をリースできたので満足しています。
