A Busy Bumblebee

I’m always happy to see bumblebees in my yard because I often worry about their dwindling numbers. As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve been seeing fewer bees in my garden year after year. This is the peak time for them to gather nectar from flowers. I usually hear their constant buzzing, but lately, I hear it less often...

Just as I was about to leave for shopping, I crouched down to tie my shoelaces. That’s when I heard it. The familiar buzzing sound coming from somewhere nearby. I love that Buzz sound... right next to me.

One of the bumblebees looked so busy collecting nectar from the jewelweed flowers. Jewelweeds have such pretty orange blooms, and the bumblebee was bouncing from one to another. I think it was a worker bee. I love their chubby bodies.

It worked so hard, never stopping as it moved from flower to flower.

Look at this! It looks so cute. It held onto the flower with its tiny arms and buried its head inside. The buzzing stopped, and there was a moment of silence while it worked. It looked as if it was wearing an orange flower hat.

Oh! It’s switching flowers again. I hear the buzzing once more.

This time it went to a lower flower. I’m always amazed at how tirelessly they work. Truly, they are hard workers. I hope they come back next season. I’ll make sure to maintain the flowers in my yard for them.

働きマルハナバチ

庭で見かけるマルハナバチを眺めるのが好きです。蜂の数が減少していることが気がかりなので、見つけた時は嬉しいです。以前も書いたことがあるのですが、年々数が減ってきているように感じます。今は花から蜜がとれるピークシーズンのように思います。この時期はブンブンと音が聞こえるのですが、心なしか音の聞こえてくる割合がガクンと落ちているように感じます。

先日、買い物に出かける前に外に出て靴の紐を結んでいると…、何やらブンブンブンという音が聞こえてきました。横にある花の方から音が聞こえてきます。このブンブンの音が好きなのです。

１匹のマルハナバチがとても忙しそうにツリフネソウの花の蜜を集めています。ツリフネソウはオレンジ色の花をつけるかわいらしい植物で、マルハナバチはあちこち飛び回っています。おそらく働きバチだと思います。まるまるとした体をしています。

ひとときも休まずに花から花へと飛び回り一生懸命に働いています。

ご覧ください！とってもかわいらしいです。小さな手で花の縁を掴み、頭を花の中に突っ込んでいます。ブンブンという音はその間しばらく止まって静けさが漂っていました。マルハナバチがオレンジ色の花の帽子をかぶっているように見えますね。

あれ！また別の花に移りました。またブンブンという音が聞こえはじめました。

最終的にいちばん低いところにある花に行きました。こんなに一生懸命働くなんてすごいことです。まさに働きバチです。また来シーズン戻ってきてくれるように庭に咲く花を育てておきます。
