THE BENEFITS OF LEARNING AN ECONOMIC SKILL

I’m happy to have you here as my friends. Today, I want to share my trading experiences with you, and I know you will benefit from it. It’s been over one month I and my coursemates were sent to DB’S couture and clothing brand for an attachment, here in Uyo. Uyo is the capital of Akwa Ibom State.
DB’S Couture and clothing brand is a fashion and design shop. During our introductory class, our instructor told us what fashion and design is all about. According to her, it has to do with the art of applying designs to clothes in order to make it look attractive and beautiful. Immediately after the introduction, she introduced to us the various types of sewing machines and their functions. She showed us Industrial sewing machine, Weaving machine, Manual straight wing sewing machine, Button sewing machine and Domestic sewing machine.

It sounds quite interesting when I heard that because I only knew of Weaving machine. I was so eager to know the functions of at least two sewing machine out of the five types of sewing machines she mentioned. She decided to tell me the function of the weaving machine which is to wrap the thread around the machine, so that the cloth could be sewed well. And she also said the Manual straight wing sewing machine is operated with the hand. It doesn’t need any electrical appliances .Immediately after the explanation, i smiled at her.

The third thing she showed us was how to paddle the machine. She showed us how to fix the thread to the bobbin case, and from the bobbin case to the sewing machine. Everyone had a nice experience on that .She then asked me to try and do what she did, and I did as she commanded, everyone applauded me. She later placed her two legs on the machine foot, and started paddling it. It was so nice when I saw her doing that.

I was called to come and do same but I insisted because I thought I won’t be able to do so. I later summed up courage and did it. Immediately I sat on the sewing machine, I started sweating from my head to toe, and everyone were wondering why I was sweating. But I couldn’t explained to them what I saw. The wonders I performed made our instructor laugh out loud. She corrected me and I was able to paddle the sewing machine very well. She gave me five hundred naira for doing what I felt I couldn’t do .Everyone else did the same thing.
 
The fourth thing she showed to us was the various types of needle that is used in sewing. According to her, size seventeen, eighteen and nineteen size of a needle is used for sewing handbags, while size fifteen of a needle is used in sewing fabrics. I was astonished , because I thought one type of needle could be used in sewing everything.

The fifth thing she showed us was how to cut clothes. According to her, the first thing to do is to placed the cloth on the tailor’s table, measure the length, the width and the length of the material, then cut the cloth with a scissors according to how it was measured. She told us to always add an allowance while measuring the cloth.

The sixth thing she showed us was how to apply hemming gum to the cloth after ironing. The purpose of the hemming gum was to make the cloth stair together, before it could be sown. The last thing she showed us was how to sew a vintage shirt. We sewed it perfectly without any error.

Lastly, I want to say that the attachment was one of the outstanding experience I have ever had in my entire life. It exposed me to so many things I wouldn’t have known. Learning a trade is not a sin, but rather a stepping stool to glory. I want to encouraged everyone reading this post to always strive for the best, let’s keep ourselves busy so that we won’t be a disgrace to our generation.
