Providence, RI for WaterFire
4 comments
Providence, Rhode Island has an annual 4th of July Independence Day celebration called WaterFire along the Woonasquatucket River. There's food trucks and street vendors. They do a lighting ceremony at sundown and the fires burn on the water until midnight.
You may have noticed a gondola on the water in those WaterFire pictures. You can book a gondola ride day or night when it's in season. You gondolier will sing for you in italian and if you pay a little extra you can have someone play for you from an assortment of instruments including guitar and accordian.
This is the Providence Athenaeum, it's a famous library that was frequented by the likes of Edgar Allen Poe and HP Lovecraft.
There's a lovely fountain in front of the Athenaeum.
The Rhode Island Capitol building has the second largest free standing dome in the world.

The is called the Preservation Conference and it sits at the top of a steep hill.

The Trinity Theater
I had a great time in Providence and ate some phenomenal food. I did the 7 course tasting menu at Gracie's across the street from the Trinity Theater.
I enjoyed Dune Brothers Seafood and Ceviches by Divino. It was interesting because we ate at Ceviches by Divino the day after we ate at Los Andes. Los Andes has fantastic reviews and we thought the food was just ok. Ceviches by Divino is a chain with several locations in Florida.
