Library Updates: Return of the Mouse Thief and More!

Today was quite eventful at the library. We counted the votes for a name for our Book Drop Monster, and the result was overwhelmingly for "Booker T. Chompington," so I made him a badge of his very own.
This badge creation involved some quick editing in Publisher with a blue rectangle, our district logo, and a text block. I printed it in color, cut out the rectangle, glued it to white paper, glued that to cardboard scrap, and trimmed everything neatly. I covered it all with packing tape as a quick pseudo-lamination.
I then took inspiration from our actual badges to tape three round magnets on the back, and three more to a spare scrap of cardboard (making sure poles matched) and using that to affix the badge to our newest library staff member. He's official now!
It turns out there was a district branch manager meeting before we opened, and one of the other managers already took our idea and made a cheap construction paper knockoff. Pathetic! Imitation is supposed to be the sincerest form of flattery though, right?
I also made the monthly visit to our nearest nursing home to swap out books for the residents there. Only three are lucid enough to read and interested enough to make requests. Many battle dementia, and some don't have the eyesight to read even large print. I can't seem to drum up interest in audiobooks. Oh, well.
There was a little girl today who was bouncing from place to place like a pinball. I termed her movements ricocheting to her mother's amusement.
Ms. C decided we should hold a sudden used book sale today, too, so I helped haul a bunch of books outside to spread out on a table and cart in the small front lawn. We'd rather let books go to a new home for a song than throw out donations and old copies of books. We didn't make a lot in donations, but we cleared some office shelf space and made some people happy.
If you've read yesterday's post, you probably want an update on the Mouse Thief. Our manager, Ms. C, was able to save the video clip from our security cameras and set up for a confrontation with our minuscule miscreant. There was some discussion of whether he would even show his face after that stunt, but he sauntered in cool as a cucumber to request his usual guest pass like nothing had ever happened.
When Ms. C confronted him, he tried to play innocent. She said she had video, and he demanded to see it, as if he could call our bluff. When the video played with clear proof, he caved and said he would get the mouse back from "his brother."
Yeah, right.

But a few minutes after scampering off, he returned with the mouse and a fistful of cash as if to bribe us into forgetting his misdeed. He was scolded, but we let him use a guest pass again since he had brought back the missing equipment. He has also been warned that cameras are watching. Time to disinfect some computer peripherals!
Before leaving for the afternoon, he left the cash and a sorta-kinda apology note on our circulation counter again blaming some nonexistent sibling. He dashed out before we could tell him, "no," again about the bribe. This is just getting weird. Everything is documented and on video though.
What's wrong with people these days?
