Times Square...

Happy Sunday !

Today I am going to visit Mom. If you've been around, I know you have heard me say that many Sundays, but today is different, because I have not seen my Mom in a month ! My car has had issues and wasn't safe to drive, but I finally got it repaired during this past week. Yay !

The car was actually more unsafe than I knew. My mechanic called me after he had done most of the list that I gave him. I needed the repair that was the major issue, but since I was taking it in, I had made a list of other things I wanted, like an oil change, an inspection and the lock in the passenger side door had drop down in the door again and I wanted it back up! My mechanic (sounds like I own him, right?) whose name is Richard, told me my brakes were kaput and so were my tires. Even though they had tread left (on most of them) they were all dry rotted and the belt was showing on the inside of one. OMGoodness ! Wonder how long I have driven on THAT?

The tires weren't so old when covid hit in 2020 and for sure, once my job was sent home, I really haven't driven the car that much comparedly. It has sat in the carport and I have only taken it out a couple of times a week normally. I was so glad I asked for an inspection that caused them to check everything. I had included on my list "anything else you see that needs done". He is a trustworthy and reliable man and is always fair.

So !.... today I will go see my Mom again. I will be so happy to see her.

Since it's summer here, all the fun produce is coming in, tomatoes, cantaloupes, corn, beans.... so fresh and my brother took Mom with him to the farmers market yesterday, so she has made squash casserole and cooked fresh green beans and she bought me a few Cherokee Purple tomatoes..... OH ! yummy yum ! I had a grocery delivery this morning that I put together last night and a fresh loaf of white bread is waiting to go out with me so that I can make a tomato sandwich. That may not sound extremely exciting, but to me, it is. When the tomatoes are coming in fresh each year, I eat as many tomato sandwiches, tomato salads and BLTs as I can unreasonably fit in. Get it while you can is my goal. I also bought a triple filled cheese danish for dessert. It sounded good, I hope it is.

Last night I painted this crazy thing. I had new stamps and new paints and I needed to try some of them out. This turned out to be a crazy piece, but then a lot of mine do turn out to be that. At 2:30 am, I liked it, thought it was amazingly colorful and the thought of Times Square came to mind. Buildings and signs and a chaos of lights. I don't know why, because I have never been there, but I've seen photos along the way and have watched the "ball" drop there on TV on New Years Eve plenty of times.

This morning though, when I rambled to my art table and looked down on it, the villain from the animated Frosty The Snowman Christmas show was what my brain heard... BUSY, BUSY, BUSY !! ha ha.... and it was true, SO busy!

This is what it looked like when I had just put paints alone on it. I was trying something I saw about putting some paint on and taking a squeegee and pulling down across it. It was interesting and fun to try.

The paints were a soft bodied paint, not liquid, but not too thick. They were not in squirt bottles though, so I used this disposable dropper to squeeze some around, before taking the squeegee to it. I almost wondered if I should stop right there, but .... of course not! You can see above in my animation some of the twists and turns it took. I had also bought a random lot of stamps off of Ebay and wanted to see if I could learn to make them work with my acrylic paints instead of ink pads and I pretty much figured that out too.

I'm drinking a reheated, leftover cup of coffee from yesterday evening. I thought I didn't have time to drink my normal couple of morning cups since soon I will need to be getting myself ready to go. It will hold me till I get to Mom's. It is kind of our habit to eat whatever meal we think up and then a bit after, putting on a cup of coffee for our afternoon visit. I think some coffee will go very nicely with this Danish I am taking out for dessert.

Normally if she has any computer program issues, email or websites she needs addressing, she will have me take a look while I am there or if there is anything else she needs that I can do. I am her computer go to person most of the times. That's sad...right ? 🤣
