Not all Oils are Created Equal

Why are essential oils called so?

Hello everyone! Just want to share my journey with essential oils.

Essential oils refer to the essence of the smell and flavor of plants that are extracted via distillation then mixed with carrier oils such as virgin coconut oil (VCO) or sunflower oil.

I experienced them about a decade ago when most of the female members of our family got hooked with Young Living (YL) essential oils.

Young Living is a multi-level marketing company that started selling essential oils and other related products in 1994. Their EOs accordingly treat some ailments.

My sister, nephew, in-laws and other relatives enrolled in YL’s multilevel marketing system, and that was the reason I was not interested! I knew I was not good in recruiting downlines much more in selling and I am not the type who would just jump into something and believe without researching.

Then and now, I think Young Living is the most hyped EO brand globally, but I found it odd that my nephew who was a professional even believed that a particular YL scent can attract abundance. Oh, come on! Hahaha! For me, this is pure crap!

Anyway, my sister was generous enough and bought me one set just for me to experience it.

So, I tried the set given to me. I can attest that their oils are potent, especially peppermint, lavender, thieves, frankincense, citrus and lemon. I have used them for fever, calming, insomnia, dizziness and muscular pains.

So, I’m buying their claim that not all essential oils are created equal, especially that I have tried other brands such as Aura Cacia and Human Nature.

I tried others because I realized that Young Living is so expensive, and I was at the thought that essential oils are all the same and YL is just expensive because of its brand. I was wrong. The lavender of Young Living and Aura Cacia is totally different! YL’s lavender essential oil scent is so potent that when I mixed it with water for diffusing, I could still smell the lavender scent, while that of Aura Cacia does not smell anything at all. Imagine, the price of YL’s lavender 5ml is Php 1020 while Aura Acacia’s lavender 15ml is Php 800 plus or so. You decide.

On the other hand, I also tried another EO brand, HUMAN NATURE. It is a Filipino-owned social enterprise that allots part of its sales to a specific Filipino community. I tried its Rosemary essential oil since I have tried its Rosemary shampoo and conditioner, and they were effective on hair regrowth. In less than a month, the Human Nature Rosemary EO revealed hair regrowth on some part of my head where my hair was thinning.

Indeed, NOT all oils are created equal. Their companies have different stories and goals, different visions and missions. They go through different processes of extraction and business strategies.

My point here is, never to allow yourselves to be deceived by any product claims unless you have researched and have tried them yourselves. Whatever effect they have on others does not guarantee the same effect on you.
