Yo no sé si ustedes saben que hace aproximadamente 7 meses yo me sometí a la difícil tarea de participar en un concurso de oposición en la universidad Pedagógica Experimental Libertador para optar a un cargo académico fijo el cual gracias a Dios logré ganar.

A pesar que mi especialidad es física, mi cargo es de matemática aplicada a la Biología y este semestre debuté como docente titular de esa cátedra. Esta materia pertenece al primer periodo o primer semestre, por lo que mis estudiantes en su mayoría eran nuevo ingreso y otros que estaban reingresando y lamentablemente por cambio de diseño curricular tienen que comenzar desde el principio, a menos que control de estudios les apruebe el proceso de acreditación.
Ahora bien, desde el mes de febrero tuve la gran tarea de compartir con estos chicos e intentar que su paso por matemáticas fuera una experiencia agradable, ante tal situación debo reconocer que no me fue tan mal, es decir fue un grupo bastante bueno. El día de ayer lunes 03 de junio ellos debían presentar su última evaluación, la cual constaba de un parcial sobre derivada de una función, el contenido que a mí parecer es el más importante de toda matemática. Así que los nervios no se hicieron esperar y cuando me vieron comenzaron a cantar “protégenos señor con tu espíritu” a modo de broma pero también demostrando lo nerviosos que se encontraban.

This subject belongs to the first period or first semester, so my students were mostly new entrants and others who were re-entering and unfortunately due to a change of curricular design they have to start from the beginning, unless the process of accreditation is approved by the control of studies.
Now, since the month of February I had the great task of sharing with these kids and try to make their passage through mathematics a pleasant experience, in such a situation I must admit that I did not do so bad, that is to say, it was a pretty good group. Yesterday, Monday June 3rd, they had to present their last evaluation, which consisted of a partial on the derivative of a function, the content that in my opinion is the most important of all mathematics. So the nerves did not wait and when they saw me they began to sing “protect us Lord with your spirit” as a joke but also showing how nervous they were.
Cuando llegue, me interceptaron en mi oficina y me hicieron entrega de unos aportes que gentilmente me donaron y que sinceramente me fueron de gran ayuda porque debido a la situación país y al bajo presupuesto universitario las universidades no cuentan con recursos para costear materiales como marcadores, lápices, hojas blancas, resaltadores entre otros, todo eso debe salir del bolsillo del docente.
When I arrived, they intercepted me in my office and gave me some contributions that were kindly donated to me and that sincerely were of great help because due to the country's situation and the low university budget, universities do not have the resources to pay for materials such as markers, pencils, white paper, highlighters, among others, all of which must come out of the teacher's pocket.
Después de eso, me quedé corrigiendo algunos trabajos en la oficina hasta que llegó la hora de hacer el examen, para mí sorpresa los muchachos tenían listo un compartir para después de la presentación de la evaluación. Los chicos llevaron Pepitos, galletas, refresco, pan, entre otras cosas, ellos me dijeron que querían compartir el último día de clase conmigo porque sintieron mucha empatía y les gustó cómo trabajé con ellos… Al final de la tarde me enviaron mensajes así:

The boys brought Pepitos, cookies, soda, bread, among other things, they told me that they wanted to share the last day of class with me because they felt a lot of empathy and liked how I worked with them... At the end of the afternoon they sent me messages like this:
Para nadie es un secreto que la profesión docente está devaluada, que el poder adquisitivo de quienes tienen en sus manos el futuro, las generaciones de relevo se encuentra en el piso y aún así seguimos apostando por la educación, tenemos la esperanza de las cosas van a mejorar y estos chicos son mi mayor motivación para continuar día a día, sus palabras son el mejor pago que pude recibir.
It is no secret that the teaching profession is devalued, that the purchasing power of those who hold the future in their hands, the next generations, is at the floor and yet we continue to bet on education, we have the hope that things will improve and these kids are my greatest motivation to continue day by day, their words are the best payment I could receive.
