In this review, Dr. Tiffany Lamonde discusses her experience with various water filters, most notably the Katadyn BeFree 3L. Starting with a giant filter that proved heavy for longer trips, she switched to the portable Sawyer Squeeze, which unfortunately broke on her third trip. Nonetheless, the Sawyer acted as a good filter despite its fragility. Dr. Lamonde then unboxes her newest filter, the Katadyn BeFree 3L, chosen due its three-liters capacity, upcoming involvement in a 100-mile wilderness hike, and other features such as durability and a decent flow rate.
 

She points out the advantages of the Katadyn BeFree 3L, such as its improved flow rate and its ease of use - its cleaning solution merely requires a swish in clean water and its large open hole makes it easier to capture water. A potential downside, as Dr. Lamonde mentions, is that it may not last as long as the Sawyer Squeeze. It’s also observed that the BeFree 3L may not fit on a standard grocery store bottle, unlike the Sawyer Squeeze. However, it comes with a durable bag that can patch up with duct tape.
