Shooting with Desne from day in to night

On a photoshoot I find that I end up with quite a lot of images, all perfectly acceptable but end up posting only a few with the result that a lot of images end up on a hard drive or somewhere in the "cloud" never to be seen by anyone. I'm not sure it's possible for images to gather dust on the shelves of a hard drive but you may get my meaning.

With that in mind I decided to post a few more images of our photoshoot with Desne Alderson. She's only an amateur, part time model but it gives me a chance to get out and practice lighting and Desne gets a whole bunch of images to post on her social media. Win, win!

Feeling Green

On this shoot, I was trying out for the first time a couple of cheap Neewer 660 RGB LED lights. I placed one behind Desne on a light stand with the other at the front and high on the right (or Desne's left). I found that the lights looked great for lighting the smoke but that the white light wasn't as bright as I'd like for the key lighting.

Note to self: Mix this with strobes next time!

Floral dresses and tattoos

One of the things I struggle with when shooting models is the model often asking me what should they bring to wear. My first thought is "birthday suit" but then follows a conversation about flowing dresses and other outfits. I usually end up going with the flow although in this case I'm not sure tattoos and a floral pattern work well together!
 

Messing with the RGB

Having a couple of RGB lights I was wary of mixing red and blue. I always thought that colour gels on white flashguns looked better and more defined but the technology seems to have come a long way and this shot works for me!

Climbing

One of the advantages of LED lights is being able to see the effects of light instantly. This shot would have taken me ages to set up with a flashgun!

In a world that is ugly choose to be beautiful

That's what the graffiti said on the walls behind Desne. She wanted a shot in front of this graff but I seemed to have failed to record it haha.
