Hello friends!

Quieter days spent watching it rain, and then I feel like watching a series more. And I like those that aren't too long, perfect for a rainy afternoon. And sometimes I like to change, so I varied the tone a bit, choosing a TV show about witches, but in the end, it was more of a simple mystery.

And what TV show am I talking about? This TV show is called Sanctuary: A Witch's Tale and it's quite popular, and it's available on AMC+.

Let's tell something about this:

What is this about?

Well, as the subtitle says, it's the story of a witch. The curious thing is that the witch lives in a modern-day English village (named strangle: Sanctuary) and works as a "certified witch". Let's say that, in this reality, witches are accepted and coexist with the rest of the population. Or so it seems...

They do their magical witchy things, and when the series begins, we see some of those details we like: spells, potion making, things flying with the fingers, and memories of rituals connected to others and to nature.

Everything is going well. The witch gathers with her friends in an idyllic setting, enjoying the outdoors—all the families. Yes, everything is going well, until something terrible happens. One of her best friend's sons falls and dies. The desperate woman asks her witch friend to revive him, and out of friendship, she ends up doing so. For a long time, years, everyone goes on with their lives.

But tragedy strikes again, and it strikes the same person again. The boy, now a charismatic and successful young man, ends up dying in an accident at a party, and the place also burns down. The mother, a pillar of the community, breaks down and suffers the loss. This time there's no choice but to accept it and attend the funeral.

And her witch friend can't revive him again? No, not this time, because she couldn't do it immediately, at that moment. In this case, the body was found later, and it was too late.

But it turns out that not everything is clear, and that it may have been more than just an accident. In any case, the detective and her assistant decide to investigate the case, because the facts seem to become more complicated as new discoveries and rumors swirl.

And the conflict begins. Friends of the deceased begin to gossip, confessing that a sex video with his girlfriend was projected on the wall without consent, and suspicions begin to arise about the girlfriend, who, coincidentally, was the witch's daughter.

This drives the dead man's mother into a rage, suspecting her best friend's daughter and starting to think that the daughter was a witch too and that she did it. So they become enemies, and hatred toward witches begins to grow in the town.

Despite the fact that other negative details about the deceased are discovered, including what he did with the girls, including the witch's daughter. Everything turns against the accused girl and even her mother. The daughter claims to have no magical powers, but no one, or almost no one, believes her anymore; everyone thinks they're guilty, and even their best friends turn their backs on them. Even the police act fanatically, ignoring all legal proceedings, encouraged by the angry mob.

Hatred begins to grow, as if it were a trial in the Middle Ages. Terribly, they even want to hang them. Only the investigation of the two detectives can help them, or something more...

The characters

The protagonists are the witch and her daughter. I'm drawn to the daughter, how she gradually becomes more important. And how shocking her confession is...

And the witch, well, I think she broke some witch laws, and that took its toll on her. Trying to please everyone, she got into trouble, and by continuing to use magic to solve everything, the situation got even more complicated. But it's true that her friends proved to be false and ungrateful. After years of asking for her help, they now turn their backs on her out of fear, pressure from others, and simple suspicion and hatred.

Anything else to comment?

In the end, it's a mystery case in which we must discover who the murderer was, or what really happened. Beyond what it seemed...
And it helps us reflect on people's behavior when they don't know something, feel fear, and even attack without rational thought. Hatred then spreads to everyone, and everyone acts as a single, unthinking mass. Fear, not understanding things, often provokes a certain resistance. One doesn't want to accept reality, and what is called "cognitive dissonance" occurs, and we unfortunately see this today as well. Some people experienced it about five years ago.

The power of fear and of masses that stop thinking critically as individuals. for that reason, it happens what it happens. A mass that is easy to be controlled...
