Celebrating 60 Years Of The Hulk

I have always been intrigued by The Hulk. Many of his comic books play out like horror movies. After what was considered to be failed attempts at bringing the green monster to the big screen, I am surprised that they haven't given Mark Ruffalo the chance to have a go at giving our favorite misunderstood hero a shot at his own film. People love him in this role in the Avengers and Thor movies.

This year, we are celebrating The Hulk's 60th Anniversary. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the Hulk is being given a special tribute in a two-part one-shot by Jim Rugg, in his own inimitable style. Troy-Jeffrey Allen wrote a great piece on Jim Rugg's infatuation with the Hulk since being a little kid in www.previewsworld.com.

In "Hulk Grand Design: Monster," Rugg fits an entire history of Hulk smashing things into one comic book. The highly cartoonish drawings by Rugg make this book even that more appealing. This is a Marvel hero who constantly exclaims that he has no friends. Over his lifetime, Bruce Banner has been transformed into a monster, was healed, was made to control his transformations and died. He was in love with Betty Ross, Jarella and Katherine Waynesboro.

Many of the Hulk's friends were also his enemies at one point in time. Besides fighting solo, he was also an Avenger and a Defender. In an attempt to save his cousin after being shot by the mob, Banner's blood transfusion turned Jennifer Walters into the Savage She-Hulk. One of his loves even almost became Ms. M.O.D.O.K. Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, was the Hulk's defense attorney in a court battle trying to prove that he is harmful to the citizens of the United States.

The Hulk's mind has always been messed with, especially when it came to his dealings with The Leader and Doc Samson. The biggest conflict has always been between Banner and the monster. Many of Marvel's beloved characters appear in this book and it is well worth the $5.99 to take the trip down memory lane.
