A Quick Visit To My Alma Mater and My Previous Station : Benchmarking Activity

Before I was hired as a permanent teacher in DepEd Cebu Province. I worked as a locally funded teacher in one of the secondary schools in my hometown. After a year, I was then offered to transfer to my alma mater again as a locally funded teacher. I worked there for almost 2 months only because I moved to another school to grab the opportunity to work as a permanent teacher in DepEd. After 5 years I applied for a transfer. Every year I filed, and two schools in my hometown gave me a transfer order but I was not able to transfer since the school principal of the two schools where I applied didn't give me an item in replace of my item. That's why until now I am still working in other districts rather than serving in my place or hometown.

I remember how much I cried when I was traveling from our division office to our home after I shared my story and situation with our Assistant Schools Division Superintendent regarding the condition of the school principal of the school where I applied. The ASDS asked me if he were to call the school principal there but I told him not to do that because I'm afraid that I might not be transferred anymore. But when I was riding a bus going home. The school principal of SRNHS called me and said." you can't transfer anymore because I propose Miss... instead of proposing you since your school principal will not hire Miss... and I want her to be hired. I replied." So you mean to say dili ako imu tabangan ang imu diay tabangan siya? (So you will not help me. You will help her? Why? Despite that, your husband and I were somewhat relatives!) So I cried...and accepted her decision. Beginning that day I lost hope anymore to be transferred to my hometown. But then, everything happens for a reason.

God did not answer my prayer to be transferred from my present station to my hometown because there's an opportunity that God will provide me. After 10 years, I was hired as a Master Teacher in our district. I became a District Coordinator in TLE and NGP. When I received my appointment as Master Teacher, the ASDS assigned me to the newly open school.The Ilihan Integrated School. Since it was newly opened and the school head was elementary-oriented, being in that station was a great challenge. During that time, my planning and management skills were developed since it was an Integrated school. I assisted our school head in planning, decision-making managing and even organizing various school organizations. Together with the school heads and teachers, we helped each other in making the newly opened school not behind other schools. After what had happened, I never visited the school, my alma mater where I applied for transfer many times. It was only last Feb.29, that I visited again my Alma mater because of our benchmarking activity as part of our orientation workshop.

My alma mater is one of the most prestigious schools that produces a lot of professionals who are now in the highest positions of the government. Many graduates are now owners and managers of big businesses, firms, and industries all over the country and the world as well. This is also the first affiliated DOST school and produces a lot of DOST scholars. Compared before and now, schools have a lot of changes. When it comes to facilities the school was already fully equipped since before. There were a lot of school buildings already but it was only one storey and 2 stories building. Right now the school has already 4 four-story buildings and there have been a lot of changes not only in terms of physical but also human resources and the number of learners enrolled since the school is the first DOST-affiliated school. Many students like to study at SRNHS since they offer a Special Science Class Program or Curriculum. Before Yolanda, the school had covered court but when Yolanda came the covered court was gone including the school stages.

The school is very safe for learners since they're very strict about coming in and out of students. I loved how the school imposed discipline on learners even before our time and at present. They have only limited space or ground lawn but it was fully landscaped. I appreciate the newly built fishpond found on the ground. It has a lot of fish but with grasses on top and pathways.

I'm proud of my Alma mater. Even if I'm not teaching there, I had a lot of learnings from this school and this is the reason why I want to become a teacher because I promise to be back here being a teacher. I had also my practice teaching here and this was my previous station. Therefore I had a lot of memories to cherish and to reminisce. Hoping and praying that someday I will be transferred and can serve my fellow San Remigiohanons.
