Keanu Deep Fakes

For those who don’t know, there is a new technology out there which is being called deepfakes. This involves mapping someone’s fake onto someone else, and it’s gotten to the point where it’s very convincing. Just search “deepfakes” on YouTube and you’ll find a ton of them, for example having Sly star in Terminator or Jim Carry in The Shining.

Clever, fun, but also… terrifying. Anyone can be made to do anything. Videos can now be “found” of Obama or Trump or any historic figure saying and doing the worst things we can think of. If you piss off the wrong person, a video of you committing murder might find it’s way to the police. This is a very scary technology that we are going to have to figure out how to police, and soon.

But for the moment… it’s not quite perfect and remains fun. This fun period may not last long, but let’s enjoy it while we can.
