So many new games to play 🎮

Close to a month ago, I made this post talking about all of the new games coming to the PS Plus Gaming Catalog in March of 2023. There were 5 significant games coming, but three of them mainly had my attention.

It's always a good feeling when you wait multiple years to play a game you are curious about and then suddenly get it for free. Here lately, I've kind of stopped buying new games the day they come out. I wait for sales, or even better get them with a membership that I am going to keep paying for no matter what.

I want to discuss my first impressions of the three games that I was most hyped to get to add to my library. I played them in order of which ones I thought I'd like most. It turns out, I enjoyed them in the reverse order that I expected to.

Let's talk gaming...

Tchia 🏝️

I was anticipating this one for many months. It actually released day one on the PS Plus Gaming Catalog, much like Stray (the cat game) many months back. It's not often that PlayStation decides to release games for free as they launch, but I'm always very happy when they do it.

Tchia is a realistic re-creation of a place called New Caledonia. It is a series of islands near Australia and New Zealand. They speak French there and other local languages. The game showcases what it is like to live in such an amazing place. The culture shines bright in this game and although it is a fictional story, it feels very real.

If I had to describe the game, it feels like an indie Zelda Breathe of the Wild. It's playful and colorful. You have to deal with stamina and have a glider of sorts. You can climb anything in the huge open world. You can even sail from island to island on your boat.

I only played this for about an hour and thought it was a really gorgeous and interesting game. Exploring is mandatory here. The game doesn't even show you where you are on your map. You have to look at landmarks to figure out where you are. It's challenging and a bit annoying to get used to honestly.

I'm sure I'll dive back into the game, as I've yet to get to the coolest part yet. You eventually get the ability to transform into any object or animal. You can become a dog, cat, fish, bird, or even a dolphin. I can't wait to see what that's like and if it's as cool as it sounds to me.

Rage 2 🏜️

This is an open-world FPS game that I've wanted to play for years. It was released back in 2019 and I kind of forgot about it because I had a feeling it would eventually become a free title on PS Plus. Turns out I was right.

Let me paint the picture of what playing this game is like. It's a mixture of Mad Max meets Doom. It's fast-paced and set in a massive desert world full of crazy characters. It's honestly a really cool concept, but I enjoyed the gameplay a hell of a lot more than the story.

It feels a bit dated compared to all of the newer games I've been playing. It seems to run okay and it is still fun, but it's just really hard for me to ignore all of the newer games in favor of Rage 2.

I love FPS titles and this one certainly isn't a bad one. I have so many options in that category, so that's really the only thing keeping me from getting super into this one.

Immortals Fenyx Rising 🏛️

This was the biggest surprise out of all the games mentioned today. I played the Immortals demo a few years ago, so I already knew what it was like. I thought it was a pretty cool game, but never purchased the full version. I did consider it numerous times, but I told myself it was just going to be another Ubisoft game.

Boy was I wrong, this game is fun as shit. The best way I can describe it to you is Zelda meets Assasain's Creed. Those two combined and then add in a beautiful Greek mythology setting with a ton of humor. Exploring this world is undeniably a blast.

Combat is pretty fun too. It's a mix of light/heavy attacks. God-like abilities. Dodging and parrying. You even have wings that allow you to soar through the sky like a phoenix.

As tired as I've grown of Ubisoft games like AC and Far Cry, I somehow love Immortals so much. It is the only game out of the three today that I played for more than an hour. In fact, I went on quite a binge with it and played for nearly 6 hours. I'm officially hooked on this one and I think it will keep me distracted from all of the other awesome games I have to play.

PS Plus Gaming Catalog is getting beefy 🥩

Gamers were not sure if PlayStation would get this whole Game Pass competitor thing right. They have been improving the library every single month and at this point, there are so many great options.

Don't forget that the new PS5 version of Uncharted is also on here now. Along with Horizon Forbidden West and Ghostwire Tokyo. Returnal is still there too. You can't go wrong with this membership, it is very well worth your money to upgrade from Essential to Extra.

My prediction is that here in the next few months, they'll add The Last of Us Part 1 PS5 remake that came out last year. I have been wanting to play that one, but refuse to pay $70 for it. I know it'll come eventually though because they did it with the new Uncharted.
