Good day, amazing people of Hive Blockchain. Welcome back to my blog. It is another edition in the #hivelearners community. I am so delighted to participate in this week's prompts; this is discipline.
Discipline is very important. Parenting is one of the difficult things I know. As a parent, it is your duty to raise up your child in a proper way. Disciplining them is a good example. To train up a child and discipline a child is the only thing that will shape a kid into becoming a better citizen. You should be able to discipline with love and not with hate.
That is why the holy book said, Train up a child in the way they should grow, and when they are old, they will not depart from it. I strongly believe that the best stage to discipline a child is when they are small; believe me, those morals and discipline will guide them till adulthood.
I have seen some parents who have really failed when it comes to disciplining their child. Last week, I was coming back from the market, and I saw a child of about 9 years abusing the mom. I was so shocked; at a point, I wanted to flog the child, but the mom was just laughing without saying anything. When I approached the mom, she was like, The child will change already. She has failed to discipline the child. One thing some parents fail to understand is that you have to set boundaries. Disciplining your child doesn’t mean you hate the child; you want the best for the child.
I grow up in a family that don’t joke with discipline. Whenever I do something wrong, my parents will correct me. If the level of my offence is high, my parents will flog me. One thing I love about my mom is after flogging me, she will tell me sorry and also advise me too. My mom disciplined me and my siblings in a way that when she looked at us, we understood the message she wanted to pass through.
Parents should understand that it is their duty to train up their child. Good parenting is not an easy task; it takes patience and time.
Some tips on the best way to discipline a kid
Sit the kid down and advise the kid: everything must not be hitting the kid and shouting at the kid. Sit the kid down to talk things out with the kid. Most times out of anger, you can injure the kid while hitting the kids. Most times all the kids want is attention, nothing more. Everything must not be punishment; create a good relationship with your kid.
When a kid understands what their parents really want from them, it helps to guide them. They always broke it down in a way the kids would understand.
Takeaway: every kid has something that is their favourite. If an infant is so dear to them, you can take away their favourite toy. If they fail to listen to you while doing things, the kid will understand that for anything he or she failed to do, there are consequences to pay.
Everything is not about hitting the kid or yelling at the child. You can discipline the kid with love. Most times out of anger, we call our kids names. I understand it is not easy to be a parent; you are used to a firm tone to talk things out with the kid.
The best way to teach your child is by modelling the behaviour you want them to follow. Always remember that kids learn fast when you model the character you want them to display.
