Montreal Protocol

In 1987, the Montreal Protocol was opened for signature. Almost all UN members joined him, which was a rarity.

The purpose of the protocol for the preservation of the ozone layer of the atmosphere. It absorbs solar radiation, which is dangerous for humans and plants in water and on land.

The Montreal Protocol provides for the rejection of the use of freons in the chemical industry. They are considered ozone eaters.

Although many argued that the harm of freons is exaggerated, the document was called a means of transition to a green economy.

And the fact is that after 2000, the area of the so-called ozone hole just over Antarctica has decreased by about 4 000 000 square kilometers.
