Meeting my favorite person on my favorite day

Watching my favorite show was always something I don’t miss because of a certain person on it, I love the way she talks, smile, and act. She was so perfect in the role she played, I sometimes go a little stalking on her IG and Facebook page, liking all her posts and watching her stories and wish I could meet her one day and just express how I am her biggest fan and need her autograph or even a handshake will be good for me.

July 8th, 2015 on a Wednesday was my birthday, and I couldn’t do anything about it because I had lectures all through that day and all I got was happy birthday compliments and handshakes with no gifts to follow. Surprisingly, I got a call from my cousin who’s in Turkey that he’s in Nigeria and would love for us to celebrate it on Sunday, I was so excited that I wished Sunday was the next day and trusted going to classes from Thursday to Friday was just like 2 months because it was so long as if someone was pushing Sunday farther away from me. I couldn’t pay attention in classes, always checking the time when the lectures will end, chatting him up on where we were going for the celebration, just keeping tabs and all that I went further in purchasing my favorite red shoe color, got a new shirt that has a little touch of red and a sky blue short knickers to have a blend in color.

I told my friend about it and also told him to get his things ready too because I wouldn’t want my best friend to miss out on the fun too, it wouldn’t be nice. But at some point, I was a bit skeptical about a place to visit, because he’s been away from Nigeria for quite some time now and he wanted me to decide on the place of my choice and he went ahead in saying it’s my day that I get to choose, expensive or not.
 

Sunday finally arrived, woke up very early like a kid on a Christmas morning trying to see if Santa came around to drop my gift. I quickly checked my phone to see if there was any message, then took my bath and got ready for church because the time for meet up was 2 pm and church time was 9 am to 12 pm, so I had to go to church first. After church, I called my best friend to come over to my place so we can move to the venue together. When he arrived, it was about 12:30 pm and there was nothing to do we just decided to watch my favorite show which was also his favorite show. We laughed and talked about the show and discussed our favorite characters in the show and we started discussing the possibility of us coming across them and how to react or on what to do.

The show we loved was JENNIFERS DIARY, a popular Nigerian TV show that has been airing for years, it’s loved due to the comic nature of the main character Jennifer, and she is determined, funny, and always makes sure she gets what she wants no matter what. In the show my favorite character was Lota Chukwu is known as KIKI on the show, she is beautiful, smart, chocolate skin, the way she talks always find a way to make me calm even when she’s tensed she looks beautiful too and my dream was always to meet her and express how I feel. And for my best friend well he loved someone else and I can’t go into his details, this post isn’t about him meeting his favorite person but about me meeting mine.
 

When it was time, we left the house and arrived at the place saw my cousin and surprisingly he was with my sister too, we took some pictures, went into the restaurant section started having conversations and laughing, talked about old memories and he asked us to order what we wanted and not to be shy about it.

Ordering our food, I suddenly got Goosebumps for some reason I don’t know, someone walked past me and I can still remember the scent of the person vividly, it was a sweet vanilla scent so calm and soothing and as I watched the person walking away to get a seat, I noticed the walking step looking familiar as if I have seen the person or know who the person was but I didn’t want to believe it’s someone who I was dreaming about to meet.

Going to my seat, I kept on looking at the figure still trying to pinpoint who the person is because she was in big dark shades, with her hair looking all-natural, no wigs or braids like what my favorite celeb normally do with her hair. Seating down, I had to make sure I sat directly opposite the direction she was, just to make sure I make out who the person was, staring at her continuously, while also having fun with friends and family, then I started talking about my favorite character and also how the girl sitting across from us looks like her but not sure because she stays in Abuja and we are currently in Edo State and there will be no possibility of her coming down to my state for any reason.

My cousin with all confidence stood up and asked us to go check her out to confirm, I told him that it wasn't possible, that it will be rude to do so, he insisted that it’s going to be a polite way and there’s no harm in asking someone that he/she looks familiar. We stood up also, walking slowly and my heart racing fast because it was an unplanned moment, and didn’t know how I would react if it was to be true that she was the actual person I think she is. When we got to her table, I quietly asked her;

Excuse me please are you KIKI from Jennifer’s Diary?

She quietly responded with a low tone: Yes I am.

I was shocked, speechless, didn’t know what to say or what to do, I just stood there smiling sheepishly and when I finally got the courage to speak, I just told her how she’s my favorite character on the show and how I don’t miss her episodes. She was smiling or rather blushing and after some little discussions, I told her it was my birthday and all I wanted was a picture with her to mark the memorable day and of course, she agreed, I was so happy because not only it was my birthday, I got meet my favorite person on the same day. After that day, I uploaded her on Instagram, tagged her, and immediately she followed me back and I just knew that dreams do come true.

Since then, have been following her works, watching movies and voting her anytime she's up for an award and I wish or rather hope to see her again.
