Thirsty work!

“Work hard, play hard”. That’s the theme of this weekend. Saturday shift at work, a mahoooosive walk with the huskies to a beautiful place, named Braddock Park, and another portion of decorating completed at the new house. Pheweee! It’s been a busy weekend. So, what better reward than a trip to my very local micropub, The Birdhide.
Unfortunately, I’ve been flummoxed by the beer-board once more and ordered the wrong beer (first world problems, I know). And so, while I endure this flat lifeless cask ale, I thought it was a good time to write a long overdue #beersaturday post.
It’s been a while since my last post, however, that doesn’t mean my “research” into our beloved brew has been neglected. Behind the scenes I’ve been working tirelessly to find my next favourite beer. And who knows, maybe after I’ve polished off the rest of this dreadful ale which is currently occupying my glass, it will be replaced with something special… After all, that’s the joy of craft ale drinking, isn’t it?

Ahhh! That’s much more my kind of ale. Something with a bit of life inside of it. Something with a head, because who doesn’t like head, right? (Don’t roll your eyes, that was your interpretation of what I just said, not mine).
6% NEIPA
I have to admit, I’m a sucker for a New England Imperial Pale Ale. In fact, if I had to take one beer to a desert island, it would certainly be a high strength NEIPA. These beers are just consistently good and today’s offering is no different.
A “fruit-grenade” is how I’d describe it. From nose to tongue I’m just experiencing many of my 5-a-day fruit requirements. It’s a great way to stay healthy.
Slight confusion over the strength of this beer as the micropub have it listed as 6%, while the brewery website states it as being a solid 5% brew. Considering the taste, this is a minor detail. Plenty of deep flavours to enjoy here. Great colour and a nice pulpy appearance. Thumbs up from me. Not a beer that’s going to take a place an top table, but still an enjoyable ale.
Ok, well that was a well deserved beer for me and while I’m at my local I thought I may as well grab a takeaway from the fridge. Eventually settled my eyes upon this cheeky little monkey and paid around £6 for it.
Will enjoy this one tonight with dinner.
Ok, that’s all folks. Time for me to get back home. Hope you’ve all enjoyed a great #beersaturday like I have.
See you next time 👍
