The Real Hennies

It was a busy afternoon when our plans to cook lunch at home came to a sudden halt. As any South African would immediately think, our first reaction was, "Damn, load shedding is back." We patiently waited through the usual two-hour span, only to find out that the power outage wasn’t due to load shedding but rather maintenance in the area with no clear end in sight. With our phones dead and hunger turning into hanger, we decided to head out to a restaurant we had yet to try - "The Real Hennies"
The real star of the evening was the milkshakes. We indulged in one Nutella and one Oreo milkshake, and let me tell you, they were some of the best we’ve had in a long time. Served in classic old-school milkshake glasses, each sip was a nostalgic pleasure. These yummy ice-cream loaded pleasures flooded all of the stress and worries out of our minds and filled us with happiness, just look at that beautiful mountain of lovely whipped cream.
We ordered a pizza to share and a basket loaded with chips, onion rings, and eisbein cubes. The pizza, with its thin, crispy crust, paired perfectly with the savory eisbein, making for an unexpectedly delicious combination. The basket of snacks was the perfect complement, and every bite was a scrumptious treat.
The restaurant’s atmosphere added to the charm of the evening. With friendly staff, lekker music playing in the background, and unique touches throughout, it was a place we felt instantly at ease. Their creatively named sauces and distinctive flavors were a fun and memorable part of the experience.
As our phones sat charging next to us, we too charged our empty batteries with the great flavours of the food. In the end, what began as a frustrating interruption in our busy day turned into a wonderful night out. Sometimes, it’s the unexpected detours that lead to the most delightful discoveries. And a reminder to everyone out there to enjoy the little things in life and to find the goodness that comes out of the bad situations. There really is always something to be grateful for, and even though we had no power for most of the day we found gratitude in the fact that we were able to spend some time together and enjoy food that we would not have cooked for ourselves.Take heart South Africans, and try to smile through the load-shedding!
All my love and thanks for stopping by!
