Hasn't it ever happened to you that you start watching a series that at first you think is wonderful, but as time goes by you start to like it less and less? That has been my experience with the series You. The first season I found it very entertaining, something different, that I enjoyed a lot, when they announced a second season I considered it unnecessary, however, I watched it and to some extent I enjoyed it, although I found it somewhat forced and repetitive. The last straw was when the third season arrived, not only did it seem more of the same, but it reached a point where everything became completely unreal.

When they announced the fourth season I was taken by surprise, I thought they would let the story rest, but greed always has more power. Despite having very little desire to watch it, I decided to give it a chance just because I don't like to leave series in the middle and because I had the hope that it would be the final season, spoiler alert: it is not. As you can imagine, I started watching it with very, very low expectations, I already knew what was going to happen: Joe was going to become obsessed with someone and that would cause a considerable amount of deaths around him. It was no surprise to anyone when that's exactly what happened.
Despite ending the previous season in Paris, searching for Marienne, this fourth season is set in England, where Joe, now known as Jonathan, works as a professor at a prestigious university. How did he manage to get there without his past haunting him? That's something I find absolutely unbelievable, one of the worst things about the season, yes, it's made known early on that he received help from someone “powerful”, but equally I find it completely implausible that he got such a job having such a spotty past.
Sure, a university is the perfect environment for a predator like Joe, I imagine that's why they forced that situation, to give him the right place to let out all his perversion, and so he does. He quickly finds his new fixation, and although at first it's hard for him to accept that he's back to his old ways, he finally ends up being a victim of his own nature and succumbs to his most perverse instincts.

As fate would have it, Joe is adopted by a group of rich friends, and although some are slow to accept him, they all end up doing so when he saves one of the rich from the clutches of the "rich man's killer", who by that time had taken the lives of three of them. This is another point that struck me as completely out of touch with reality; no such elite and high caste group would have agreed to integrate someone like Jonathan. But by the magic of the script, they did, and although it seems implausible to me, at the same time it gives rise to one of the few things I liked about the season: exposing the excesses and filth that surround the "Jet set" life.
There is a good critique of the upper and privileged class. Yes, that's something that has already been seen a lot in several productions, but I think it never hurts to expose them for the crap they tend to do. There is one point where I even felt a sort of relief when "the rich assassin" kills one of the nastiest and most disgusting members of the rich group. Other than that and a pseudo-twist near the end of the season, I don't consider it to have been as well put together as it was intended to be, there were things left up in the air that were left unexplained by the time the final "twist" was revealed.
Perhaps another highlight is that Joe was exposed for what he is, a complete psychopath. In previous seasons it was incomprehensible to me how many women turned out to have a crush on the character. From the beginning it is made known that the guy is crazy and dangerous, even so I got to see comments from many who said that he was their ideal partner, there are definitely women who do not want a relationship, what they want is to live in Chernobyl. After this season, Joe was totally exposed, so I hope there are no more women with those kind of ideas, and if there are, I hope they seek professional help because those cravings are not healthy or normal.
The season consisted of ten episodes, which were released in two parts, I guess it was a Netflix strategy to capture more subscribers, but it honestly annoyed me. The first batch of episodes was a bit tedious and I had a hard time deciding to continue with the second part once it came out, luckily I did and while I can't say it was worth it, at least you can see that they wanted to do something different. I know the twist ending divided the audience and I'm among the group that thought it was pretty far fetched. Also, Jonathan's ending, can we have something a little less cheesy and pretentious next time.

Unfortunately, the series is heading for a new season, surely even more repetitive, pretentious and unreal than the previous ones. This time I don't know if I will comply with watching it, even though I don't like to leave series halfway through, because truly each season has become more and more unbearable for me, only time will tell if I find myself bored enough to watch it. I think it goes without saying that I don't recommend it, maybe if you haven't seen the series you might enjoy the first season, but other than that, nothing.
What I liked the most
- The reminder that Joe is plain and simple a madman who has NOTHING attractive about him. I'm sick of guys as toxic and dangerous as Joe being romanticized, it's not good, it's not healthy and it's not entertaining, I just hope they keep putting him out there as the villain he is.
What I liked least
- That they made the season. That's right, plain and simple I think the series should have ended with the first one, the next three have become repetitive and unnecessary, made just to bring audience to a platform that is losing more and more subscribers.

¿No les ha pasado que comienzan a ver una serie que al principio les parece muy buena, pero que con el tiempo comienza a gustarle cada vez menos? Esa justamente ha sido mi experiencia con la serie You. La primera temporada me pareció muy entretenida, algo diferente, que disfruté bastante, cuando anunciaron una segunda temporada la consideré innecesaria, sin embargo, la vi y hasta cierto punto la disfruté, aunque me pareció algo forzada y repetitiva. El colmo fue cuando llegó la tercera temporada, no solo me pareció más de lo mismo, sino que llegó un punto en el que todo se volvió completamente irreal.
Cuando anunciaron la cuarta temporada me tomaron por sorpresa, pensé que ya dejarían descansar la historia, pero la avaricia siempre puede más. A pesar de tener muy pocas ganas de verla, decidí darle una oportunidad solamente por el hecho de que no me gusta dejar series a la mitad y porque tenía la esperanza de que fuera la temporada final, spoiler alert: no lo es. Como pueden imaginarse, comencé a verla con muy, pero muy bajas expectativas, ya sabía que iba a pasar: Joe se iba a obsesionar con alguien y eso ocasionaría una cantidad considerable de muertes a su alrededor. No fue sorpresa para nadie cuando eso fue exactamente lo que pasó.
A pesar de haber finalizado la temporada anterior en París, buscando a Marienne, esta cuarta temporada está ambientada en Inglaterra, donde Joe, ahora conocido como Jonathan, trabaja como profesor en una prestigiosa universidad. ¿Cómo logró llegar ahí sin que su pasado lo persiguiera? Rápidamente, encuentra a su nueva fijación, y aunque al principio le cuesta aceptar que está de vuelta en las andadas, finalmente termina siendo víctima de su propia naturaleza y sucumbe a sus más perversos instintos.

Como obra del destino, Joe es adoptado por un núcleo de amigos ricachones, que si bien algunos tardan en aceptarlo, todos terminan haciéndolo cuando salva a uno de los ricachones de las garras del "asesino de los ricos", el cual para ese entonces había cobrado la vida de tres de ellos. Este es otro punto que me pareció completamente fuera de toda realidad, ningún grupo tan elitista y de casta tan alta, hubiera aceptado integrar a alguien como Jonathan. Pero por la magia del guion, estos sí lo hicieron y aunque de verdad me parece inverosímil a la vez da pie a una de las pocas cosas que me gustó de la temporada: exponer los excesos y porquerías que rodean la vida "Jet set".
Hay una buena crítica a la clase alta y privilegiada. Sí, eso es algo que ya se ha visto mucho en varias producciones, pero creo que nunca está de más exponerlos por las cochinadas que suelen hacer. Hay un punto en el que incluso sentí una especie de alivio cuando "el asesino de ricos" mata a una de las miembros más asquerosas y desagradables del grupo de ricachones. Fuera de eso y de un pseudo-giro que hay casi al final de la temporada, no considero que haya sido una temporada tan bien armada como se pretendía, hubo cosas que dejaron en el aire y que al momento de revelar el "giro" final quedaron sin explicación alguna.
Quizás otro punto destacable es que se terminó de exponer a Joe como lo que es, un completo psicópata. En temporadas anteriores era incompresible para mí cómo muchas mujeres resultaron teniendo un crush con el personaje. Desde el principio se da a conocer que el tipo está loco y es peligroso, aun así llegué a ver comentarios de muchas que decían que era su pareja ideal, definitivamente hay mujeres que no quieren una relación, lo que quieren es vivir en Chernóbil. Después de esta temporada, Joe quedó totalmente expuesto, así que espero que ya no quede ninguna con ese tipo de ideas, y si sí, ojalá que busquen ayuda profesional porque esos gustillos no son sanos ni normales.
La temporada constó de diez episodios, los cuales fueron lanzados en dos partes, supongo que fue una estrategia de Netflix para captar más suscriptores, pero a mí honestamente me fastidió. La primera tanda de capítulos fue algo tediosa y me costó bastante decidirme a continuar con la segunda parte una vez que salió, por suerte lo hice y si bien no puedo decir que valió la pena, por lo menos se ve que quisieron hacer algo diferente. Sé que el giro final dividió a la audiencia y yo estoy dentro del grupo al que le pareció bastante rebuscado. Además, ¿el final de Jonathan?, ¿podemos tener algo un poco menos cursi y pretencioso la próxima vez?.

Lamentablemente, la serie se enfila a una nueva temporada, seguramente aún más repetitiva, pretenciosa e irreal que las anteriores. Esta vez no sé si cumpliré con verla, aunque no me guste dejar series a medias, porque de verdad cada temporada se ha vuelto cada vez más insoportable para mí, solo el tiempo dirá si me encuentro lo suficiente aburrida como para verla. Creo que sobra decir que no la recomiendo, quizás si no han visto la serie puedan disfrutar la primera temporada, pero fuera de eso, nada.
Lo que más me gustó
- El recordatorio de que Joe es simple y sencillamente un loco que no tiene NADA de atractivo. Estoy harta de que se romantice a tipos tan tóxicos y peligrosos como Joe, no es bueno, no es sano y no es entretenido, solo espero que lo sigan poniendo como el villano que es.
Lo que menos me gustó
- Que hicieran la temporada. Así es, simple y sencillamente creo que la serie debió terminar con la primera, las tres siguientes se me han hecho repetitivas e innecesarias, hechas solo para llevar audiencia a una plataforma que cada vez pierde más suscriptores.
