A story about how I once turned my laptop into a bartop arcade cabinet with cardboard 5 years ago [ENG/ESP]

Exactly 5 years ago, when I was still in high school instead of college, I had started a project using my laptop and a huge box to make a bartop arcade cabinet out of cardboard, because with the size of the box, and my creativity at its peak at that time, I gave it a try. And yes, I know this idea may sound a bit...hard to sustain considering that it is putting cardboard on top and on the sides of a laptop; I had already been made fire jokes back then in a single forum where I had shared this idea and photos of my progress, although that forum currently no longer exists because the page where it was located was taken down years ago, and I thought I might have lost these photos forever until I remembered that I had them also in my imgur account.
In the first two pictures you can see how I hold on top a part that would be for the "marquee" of the cockpit, and that's because this piece was not glued yet to the base that was glued (the sides and the part that goes to the screen; this base was obviously not literally glued to the laptop since the idea was to be able to remove it when I wasn't going to use it anymore), and this can be seen in the other pictures where I have just the base without the laptop. However, I had already put a lot of effort in cutting the pieces, gluing and painting them, and this can be seen in the rest of the pictures, although I used at first pictures where the pieces were not glued but held with other things as a demonstration, since in these is where you could see the screen more clearly.
I think an idea I had, that I don't know if in the end I did, was to make some holes in one of the two sides to have an area to connect the USB controls, since obviously if I was going to put a cover to the permanent keyboard, I couldn't use it, although I think I connected the controls without that since the frame of the screen was wide enough to leave a space not only for those ports in the front, but also for the charger in the back. And well, at that time I showed it to my friends, as I mentioned I wrote about it in a picture, and I tested it for a few arcade games (in one of the pictures you can see Xevious 3D, and I was testing as frontend the Maximus Arcade), and well, everything was fine while I was thinking about the next plan of sticking the marquee to the frame...but one day the misfortune struck.
Well, as you can see the frame, that's how I left it once on the bed in my room when I went out to school...and when I came back, one of my two brothers apparently laid down on the bed without seeing that it was there and the pieces came off (because of course, it fell on him and practically crushed him).... and that was practically the end of this short (but fun at the time) project, since I never felt like going through the trouble of gluing the side pieces back together again, and of course, between having to take care of school again and thinking about how unsafe a cardboard cover could be on a laptop, I never took it up again. Those pieces remained in my warehouse and I think they must have even gotten wet and discarded a few months later.
But hey, an experiment that was fun while it lasted thanks to the creativity of not having so many messes in my head, to have the closest thing to a mini arcade cabinet in my own home, and it was definitely one of the most creative (and crazy) ideas I've ever had. Even if the cardboard contraption is no longer here, I'll always have the memories of putting it together, painting it and using it :)

Exactamente 5 años atrás, cuando aún estaba en el liceo en vez de la universidad, había empezado un proyecto usando mi laptop y una caja enorme para hacer una cabina bartop de arcade con cartón, ya que con el tamaño que tenía la caja, y mi creatividad a tope en aquel momento, me dió por intentarlo. Y si, se que esta idea podrá sonar algo...dificil de sustentar considerando que es poner cartón encima y en los lados de una laptop; ya me habían hecho chistes de incendio en ese entonces en un único foro donde había compartido esta idea y fotos de mi progreso, aunque ese foro actualmente ya no existe debido a que la página en la que se encontraba se dio de baja hace años, y pensé que podría haber perdido estas fotos para siempre hasta que recordé que los tenía también en mi cuenta de imgur.
En las primeras dos fotos se ve como sostengo encima una parte que sería para el "marquee" de la cabina, y eso es porque esta pieza no estaba pegada aún a la base que si estaba pegada (los lados y la parte que va a la pantalla; esta base obviamente no estaba literalmente pegada a la laptop ya que la idea era poder quitársela cuando ya no lo fuera a usar), y esto se ve en las otras fotos donde tengo nada más la base sin la laptop. Sin embargo, ya le había puesto bastante esfuerzo con cortar las piezas, pegarlas y pintarlas, y esto se ve en el resto de las fotos, aunque usé al principio fotos donde no habían piezas pegadas sino sostenidas con otras cosas como una demostración, ya que en estos es en donde se veía más claramente la pantalla.
Creo que una idea que tuve, que no se si al final hice, era hacer unos huecos en uno de los dos costados para tener un área para conectar los controles USB, ya que obviamente si fuera a poner un cubierto al teclado permanente, no podría usarlo, aunque creo que conectaba los controles sin eso ya que el marco de la pantalla tenia un ancho suficiente para dejar un espacio no solo para esos puertos por delante, sino también para el cargador por atrás. Y bueno, en ese tiempo se lo mostré a mis amigos, como mencioné escribí de esto en un foto, y lo probé para unos cuantos juegos arcade (en una de las fotos se ve Xevious 3D, y estaba probando como frontend el Maximus Arcade), y pues, todo bien mientras que pensaba en el siguiente plan de pegar el marquee al marco...pero un día atacó la desgracia.
Pues así como ven el marco, asi lo dejé una vez en la cama de mi cuarto cuando salí al liceo...y cuando regresé, uno de mis dos hermanos al parecer se acostó en la cama sin ver que eso estaba ahí y se despegaron las piezas (porque claro, le cayó encima y prácticamente lo aplastó)...y eso prácticamente fue el final de este corto (pero divertido en su momento proyecto), ya que nunca me dieron suficientes ganas de pasar por el problema de pegar las piezas laterales de nuevo, y pues claro, entre tener que ocuparme nuevamente del liceo y pensar en el tema de que tan inseguro podía ser una cubierta de cartón en una laptop, nunca lo volví a retomar. Esas piezas quedaron en mi depósito y creo que hasta se habrán mojado y desechado unos meses después.
Pero bueno, un experimento que fue divertido mientras duró gracias a la creatividad de no estar con tantos lios en la cabeza, para tener lo más cercano a una minicabina de arcade en mi propia casa, y definitivamente fue una de las ideas mas creativas (y locas) que alguna vez he tenido. Aun cuando el armatoste de cartón ya no esté aquí, siempre tendré los recuerdos de cuando lo armé, pinté y utilicé :)
